act of desperation: Panthers interested in 35 yr old DT Hollis Thomas

What the f**k? CUT NICK HAYDEN YOU BASTARDS. They seriously just cut the one DT that still had potential on this roster?
they aren't looking for potential at this point and they can't afford to wait. they are 'desperate to win now' mode and sunny wasn't going to make that happen.

i hate cutting him loose but right now he isn't among the best of our DTs (not that we have much right now anyway).

he could have been good down the road. i just don't think that fox/hurney see a very long road in front of them.

I'm sorry but I really have to disagree here. Nick Hayden has been getting his ass blown up for 3 weeks straight yet the panthers keep starting him. Hell Favorite was a better option than him. If we really wanted to win Hurnery would get us Shaun Smith, not some rotational blob to clog the middle. Sure he could help, but why not get a guy who could actually take the defense to another level. Watch Harris be Javon Haye 2.0.

daringantt New Panthers DT Hollis Thomas on his role: "Be the new fat guy to take attention away from the old fat guy." Funny dude.

thomas knows what he is doing. sunny didn't.

sunny was a project at best. i think he could be very good in the future but when you are on a team that has to win now "or else" you can't really afford to take on any more projects.

i like hollis quite a bit. he's a smart player and good for morale. he's still pretty strong as well. for the time being, he is a good option.

only problem is i don't trust his ability to stay healthy. he was hurt last year with a triceps tear. the kind of freak injury that usually happens to older players. when you have a position that is already prone to getting hurt like we have at DT, you don't want to get someone who has a problem getting healthy. it's agamble that i how works but i don't really think it can for the long term (long term meaning the whole season).

Hence why I said you could go to Shaun SMith for insurance.

Meeks' Colt defense of a few years back got a lot better against the run with the acquisition of Anthony McFarland, so who knows?

i think harris has more talent than hayden but hayden has the advantage of having a little more experience. not much more but enough that he was more comfortable in that role than harris and had more of a clue what was going on.

long term i would take harris over hayden 10 times out of 10.

the position that the team has put themselves in doesn't allow for much in the way of long term thinking. panthers really don't have time to let a new guy learn his job.

smith is really who i want to see them go after but they are in panic mode right now. no telling what they are going to do.

i would more look at hollis as insurance for smith. you have hollis so you aren't as desperate when you talk to smith.

i just can't believe that they would be overlooking smith and at least not trying for him.

What would you guys think of maybe trying to snag Jarvis Moss from the Broncos next year? He's playing out of scheme in Denver and would be a better suited on our squad. Hasn't shown a whole lot but the potential is there. Could be worth trading a late pick for.

we dont need another DE..
