Former Panthers cornerback (now Washington ) Josh Norman doing a meet and greet with fans before his celebrity basketball tournament at Providence High in Charlotte, N.C. Redskins-themed colors now of course. Norman still is popular in the Queen City.

Running back Jonathan Stewart among several Panthers at the Josh Norman celebrity basketball fundraiser at Providence High in Charlotte, N.C. Also here are safeties Kurt Coleman and Tre Boston and cornerback Teddy Williams. Stewart has pretty good form on the court.

Panthers linebacker Thomas Davis (yes he is wearing No. 23) prepares to block out former Carolina wide receiver Steve Smith at Josh Norman's celebrity basketball fundraiser. Little gamesmanship here. Or maybe Davis is trying to put his missed dunk on the other end behind him. He wasn't 23 worthy on that one but he has some game.

What a great picture!  A lot can be said in that picture about life: 1) There are very few fairy tale endings, 2) For a franchise that's only ~20 years old, we have had some memorable characters, & 3) This franchise and region seem to leave a mark on a lot of the players that pass through here.

Some other random thoughts:  I saw a YouTube video last week of the old Bojangles commercial with Jake & Smitty.  That was a incredible connection to watch between them.  Some of the balls Jake threw up to Smitty that he came down with still astound the mind.  I hope Smitty eventually decides to retire here.  It's crazy that Pep will probably finish his career here and Smitty didn't, but that's life.  Am glad Pep is back.  And Norman definitely looks like a guy who wants to be back.
