NFL Draft Rumor: Scout Insider Says Carolina Likely To Pull Trigger If Fournette Falls To #6; Other Draft Rumors

The difference in the trade value chart from 8 to 6 is only 200 points.  64 is 270 points.  70 points is equal to a mid-4th.  They're trying to accumulate picks, not players, and will trade Calvin Pryor for a song.  Even 8+64 for 6 and Pryor is too much, technically, but if it guarantees Fournette and scaring the bejesus out of the other 31, fire away.  The Bengals are a disaster and can't afford to give away more than that with far more holes than we have.

Enlighten me.  Who are these day 3 home runs that Gettleman consistently hits?

It would seem to me, in terms of Gettleman's "gold" metaphor, that in a deep draft 4th-7th round picks would be dollar coins while 2nd round picks would be "gold" nuggets.

Yeah - and I think people are really confusing what the NFL means when they say it's a "deep" draft.

Rounds 5-7 are typically crap shoots.  You are just drafting guys you have rated as priority free agents.

The depth in this draft is in day 2.  Rounds 2 and 3 are going to have plenty of immediate-impact players, which is not typically the case.  Gettleman told us that exactly yesterday - it's those top 100 picks that are better than usual this year.

So if you trade away your top three picks for Fournette, you literally pass on the special portion of this draft.  Our fourth round picks (#98 = fourth round) aren't magically going to be round 2 talents.

100% spot on.

Gettleman is freaking excited to have 4 picks in the top 100 of this draft. I would be MAJORLY surprised if he gives up 3 out of the 4 on one player.

The value alone in giving 2 of the 2nd/3rd round picks gets us from 8 to 2 or 3 more realistically. And i dont see the need to get to 2 or 3.

Why is Cincy trading up to 6 ahead of us to take Fournette so bad? That just means we get CMac or a better player at 8.

I am feeling confident that at least 1 QB will go top 5, if not a team picking in that range, one will trade up. San Fran wants to trade down and someone will fall hard in love with a QB and be willing to trade up to 2 to make sure they get him over CHI/NYJ.

Garrett
Thomas
Adams
Allen
Fournette
Lattimore
Hooker
Howard

One of these 8, if not more, will be on the board at 8. Any of them is a successful draft in my opinion.

Agree with you on the 2nds. I've posted many times that if you look at our visits, most of them, Bolles, Basham, Walker, Njoku, Robinson, Engram, Ross, Jones, Godwin, White, Tabor, Kamara, Obi, McKinley, Samuel and Willis, are late first to late 2nds.

Anyone going to tell me that with 16 of 29 visits being in range of 40 and 64, we are going to trade both picks to move up for Fournette? I don't think there's a snowball's chance in hell he thinks Fournette is worth the risk of losing him over Howard, Thomas, Barnett, Adams and McCaffery that he'd get rid of a chance to get two of the above. I'm thinking he'd take Thomas/Barnett plus Godwin and Kamara or McCaffery, Godwin and Walker over just Fournette.

Would he consider jumping to 6 by giving up 98, 115 and 150 something (with 8 = 6)? I could see that but we have too much interest in round 2 potential guys.

All that said, I disagree that 98 won't magically be a round two guy most years. Our extra pick at 98 plus 115 is worth pick 83. That could be a guy who could have gone mid 2nd last year. I think this draft is much better than the last couple. Just look at WRs which isn't considered a deep position this year. In the last two years the WRs in the 2nd are Thomas, Shepard, Boyd, Devin Smith, Funchess and DGB. Thomas was a 1st rounder who dropped due to a slow combine and had the luck to play with a top QB. I'd take Jones and Godwin over all the rest and WR isn't deep this year.

The more I think about it, I'd love it if we moved up 98. I think 98 and 115 could be some decent depth but 83 or so could still be a potential solid starter for the future.

The only problem with packaging 98 and 115 is Graham GaNO-Zane Gonzalez isn't making it to round 5 it doesn't sound like.  Obviously GaNO must go for the mental health of the franchise, so unless we have a different 2nd tier kicker targeted in rounds 5-7 (and even RR said we WILL bring in a guy at kicker), or if Gonzalez actually goes higher than 98, we're in a relatively tough spot.

First off, you probably won't know who this source is. I didn't even know, until I came across a comment on the NFL_Draft reddit that recommended this guy as a possible insider. The reason he's not well known is his dislike of anything "click-baity" or "mainstream." Nevertheless, I did my due diligence of comparing his comments to what the Panthers are leaning towards, and it looks like he is completely legit.

I'll explain why.

As everyone knows, @Jeremy Igo is fervent in his belief the Panthers are in love with Fournette. His comments have solidified that he may be one of our top prospects on our board, and that we may go hard for him.

Then, I see some of these tweets:

Considering this, I realized that this gem I recently found may be of actual substance and truth. With Gettleman possible "uncomfortable" with pick number 8, I'm sure he may be antsy to look for a trade up based on these comments. Even so, once I looked up the source of this supposed rumor snatcher, I realized he has been doing this for years and has gained some accurate information.

So, I believe this guy has some true gems to his information.

What exactly is one of his claims? Well, take a look:

This validates what Igo was insinuating with Getteman's "laugh" when he has received trade offers.

What is interesting is how interested the Bengals are with Fournette. It will be something to watch on draft night, as they could attempt to leapfrog us for Fournette.

He then has another post, reiterating our interest in that possible trade:

http://corner.bigblueinteractive.com/index.php?mode=2&thread=551640

The real surprise is how interested the Jets are with Mahomes. Could be one of the surprise picks of the draft.

Nevertheless, Jacksonville will continue to be an issue with their interest, so it's no wonder Igo has predicted that we may go as far as the #3 pick to attain Fournette.

Those really are the only nuggets concerning the Panthers, but the rest of the stuff is interesting as well. I'll post them here, and let you all sift through it and comment on whatever perks your ears:

http://corner.bigblueinteractive.com/index.php?mode=2&thread=551576

So, some quick nuggets:

  • Dalvin Cook is scratched off as a first rounder
  • Giants interested in a QB
  • Packers like D'onta Foreman

http://corner.bigblueinteractive.com/index.php?mode=2&thread=551640

Some nuggets:

  • Broncos may trade up for McCaffrey
  • 49ers want Mixon in 2nd round
  • Browns want to trade up for San Fran's #2 pick
  • Chargers set on Jamal Adams if he falls

Take this for what you will. A lot of information.

Which means Fournette at 8  & OJ Howard or MCaffrey in mid +/- 15
