Post Gallbladder Surgery Recovery

I'm just over a month post gallbladder removal and wanted to know if anyone has had theirs taken out or know someone who has?  How long before you or someone you know took before they felt 100%?

I have good days and bad days, but reading online is really stressing me out.  A lot of horror stories out there and it's got me worried.

I'm about a year and a half in from having mine and I can't say I'm quite 100%. Took me about 3 months to feel more or less normal but there have been some changes. Certain foods and alcohol are harder to deal with now. Overall I'm 97% where I used to be though

I had Gall Bladder surgery last July 2nd.  I felt pretty good after a week.  By August, I felt no effect whatsoever, although my wife and son still fussed at me if I lifted something.  You have to be careful about what (and how much) you eat for a little while but within two months I was back to eating a normal diet.

My mom had it done and I didn't even hear about it again after a few weeks. She's extremely healthy and like 5 times more active than me, her 22 year old son lol. Surely people only post the bad stories up online, nobody would go out of their way to make a post/blog or whatever saying "it went normally and I was fine in a couple of weeks."

I had mine removed in 2011 and had to change my diet fairly significantly. More susceptible to heartburn, indigestion.

What you should learn are those food which are more difficult for the human body to digest. Things like nuts would normally have triggered your gall bladder into action as they can be tough to digest. Without a gall bladder, you may feel pretty sluggish after consuming those types of foods.

One little nick of the nearby nerve and you could be in for Hashimoto's syndrome- which is just fugged from what I've read.

I'm sure stress has a lot to do with my symptoms, but did you ever experience like a slight burning sensation in the stomach after eating?  It's not painful, but still noticeable.

I did and still do. Never had much of an issue with heartburn before hand but do now. I also had pancreatitis and had symptoms for months before I ended up getting hospitalized, while on a business trip no less.

So so don't do it that way

The last three days have been a nightmare for me.  Panic attacks, nausea, vomiting, no appetite, no sleep and a burning sensation in both my throat and stomach.  Thought about going to the ER multiple times, but I'm not sure if they will be able to do a whole lot for me, and will the cost even be worth it.  At this point, I just want to sleep. It seems every time I try to, nausea starts to take over.  I really hope this is just stress related and will eventually pass and I can get back to normal things.  At this point, the surgery did fix my gallbladder attack problem, but if I have to feel like this every day, it wasn't worth it.

I would go see your family doctor and not the ER. I'm sorry you're having to deal with this. It sounds like you are pretty stressed out about the outcome of the surgery. That may be playing a role too.

I finally managed to get a good night sleep and been talking to some people on YouTube who went through very similar problems as I'm going through which help calm my anxiety down.  I'm much better today, appetite coming back, rested, no nausea and no stomach burning.  I do however still have a burning sensation in my throat, but it's not that bad today.  I find it's better when I'm not focused on it. But I may be switching to a different PPI or may consider taking a H2 blocker instead.  I just hope it isn't bile reflux. Thanks for the response.

That's tough but I'm really glad to hear that you're feeling a bit better about it and were able to finally get some sleep!

I have found anecdotally that not sleeping makes everything worse but especially exacerbates whatever I'm anxious about.

It's a vicious cycle.

Sleep deprivation is one scary thing to go through.  Blood pressure was low, any time I got up I felt dizzy, very scary stuff.  I've eaten more today than I have in the last three days combined, and my blood pressure is back to normal.

With the draft this week, that's something to keep me excited and positive.  Hope to get 100% real soon.
