The best Panther

NFL Executive

Recommended Posts

Who do you guys think has been the best/ most influential/ done the most for the franchise/ face of the franchise Panther of all time. Not just the past few seasons, but out of the entire time the franchise has been in existence.

Sam Mills

Wesley Walls

Stephen Davis

Steve Smith

Jake Delhomme

D-Will

Julius Peppers

Other: Please specify

My vote is between Walls and although I hate him Jake. What do you guys think?

I'd add Kasay to the list....even though I might not vote for him. He has given the franchise extremely reliable leg over the course of it's existance....and he doesn't get enough credit for it. Insert your average up and down NFL kickers and the win/loss column would look MUCH different.

I don't think Carolina has that ONE figure yet....they have yet to emerge.

I love Sam Mills, and I'd have to say he's my favorite Panther guy of all time.

But if the criteria is who's had the biggest effect on the team, for both positive and negative, I think you have to go with Delhomme. A lot of the other ingredients were in place. He was the catalyst that kick started the best run in Panther history. Hes still having a huge effect now, though not all of it is for good.

And you'd have a hard time arguing that anyone has been the "face of the franchise" more than Jake. He's easily been the most visible player. Smith may be the best player, but you can't have a "face of the franchise" whose known for altering the faces of some of the franchise's players.

Julius Peppers appears to have single-handedly fuged an entire season by eating up cap-room needed for depth and sleeping through games, and may very well end up (with the help of delhomme and fox) throwing this team back into a rebuilding mode. That's pretty influential. I'm going with Julius Peppers.

I know we hate to entertain the thought right now, but you could make an argument for Peppers. He was perhaps most responsible for transforming the Panthers defense into one of the league's best and most feared defenses for several years. I know it's just the Fox-era and doesn't really apply today, but most people know Carolina as a defensive-minded team. No player has been as responsible for this perception than Peppers.

i know, the real reason I'm angry is that he's been my favorite player since he was drafted.
