Sheldon Brown Talks about Delhomme

So every DB in the league knows Jake locks on to 89, especially on plays of significance (third and long). They just lie in wait like a lion ready to pounce. And before long....they feed. It's inevitable.

He's been doing that for years and Jake to Smitty has worked for the most part. What's so different now?

I don't get it. Is Jake just getting old and his accuracy just isn't there?

I know he had the surgery and came back strong but I'll never forget the last drive of the last game last season against the Saints when Smitty made that miracle catch and Jake ran to the sidelines holding his arm like he hurt it again. Of course, he never said anything but the next day as soon as he aired it out, it was over. You have to wonder...

i've pretty much concluded that Delhomme is finished, and it's nothing new. But another part about what makes our offense so inept is that the WR starting opposite Smith is Moose. He's not going to attract any extra coverage most of the time and would best serve the team as a slot receiver at this point (the Proehl role), but only if we had a viable no.2 receiver. Working with Jarrett so far has been a struggle, but I'll tell you right now, maybe, just maybe, start Jarrett at no.2 the next game and see how he fares, or at least sub him in for Moose on some passing downs. He doesn't get many snaps on the field, he hasn't been given a whole lot of opportunities to show us what he's got, and as slow as he can be, he's got to have more speed at his age than Moose to run downfield, and more stamina not to get exhausted after running a go route.
