The Next Head Coach

true. They were retreads. Shanahan and Gruden were on their second gigs.

Though most of the names out there have won a Super Bowl with someone. And that historically states no way they do it again.

Though proven commodity sometimes is better than unknown.

maybe. They're not known for excellence in their current roles though.

Nope. hence why Zimmer is higher in my mind right now.

In fairness though, if I recall correctly Fox was coming off a down performance year when he got the Panthers job.

Just an FYI...

Tom Coughlin - retread

Tony Dungy - retread

Bill Bellichik - retread

That's 3 superbowl winners. Sometimes retreads work out pretty well...I wouldn't completely dismiss the idea.

And all three have something in common that a lot of the retreads in this discussion don't (Magnus hinted at it).

McDermott hasn't proven yet that he's more than a one year wonder. I know someone will cite Josh McDaniels, but as I said elsewhere McDaniels hasn't really accomplished anything yet but winning some regular season games.

The patron saint of one year wonders is our old buddy Jack Del Rio.

BTW I really don't want a OC as our new HC. Lets look back at the last 5 SBs. 1 Patriots win (former DC HC), two Steelers wins (Two different former DC), 1 Colts win (former DC), 1 Giants win (former DC). In fact the last former OC HC to win one was Brian Billick (in 01) and that was with a horrible O and outstanding D. To quote the biggest cliche in football defense wins championship.

I don't think Cowher is that great of a choice. Look at the Steelers now. Two titles with a coach who had always been a position coach, and just a coordinator for one season on a team which had a stout d-line on steroids. He won one title during all those years there. John Fox would go there and win Superbowls, and thats the bottom line!

Tomlin has only won 1 Super Bowl and Cowher the other. SB XL (2005 Season) was a Cowher team and Last year was Tomlin's.
