How Do The Panthers Do It?

Bama Panther

Recommended Posts

Here is, what I think is, a legit question: How does the Panthers organization sell this team to the fans at this point? I really don't think they can for a few reasons.

One: The starting QB has turned the ball over 15 times in the last four games that mean anything. I don't see how teammates could be confident in that, and it has been shown that most fans are not. The Jake-led SB and NFCCG runs are so far back in the rearview mirror that they don't hold much water in more.

Two: The entire defense has been absolute junk since the halfway point of last season. The average points given up has to be right at or over 30 ppg, and the rush defense is pretty non-existent. Additionally, fundamentals are completely lousy.

Three: Even with coaching changes, the conservative philosophy remains intact. Now, this used to work when the Panthers actually backed that philosophy up. However, conservative playcalling, on both sides of the ball, fails in long run. I think that was evident last night with Beason's reaction to the conservative defense in the second half. This philosophy stems from one person . . . John Fox.

Four: Poor roster management. The team wasted approximately 1/6 of the cap on a guy that does not want to be in Charlotte and has played as such for the first three games. What could have been done with that money? I would bet that some bum off the street would not have been considered a good pick up at DT last week.

So, the ultimate question, again, is this: How does the Panthers organization sell hope/optimism/whatever word you want to insert to the fans? While there are potential stars on the team, they are being held back by inept playcalling, coaching and play of fellow teammates. It really is kind of sad.

its called loyalty, you have to stand by your team, in the good and bad times.

One can have loyalty towards something but still be apathetic towards it based on what it has been giving back. That is what I am getting at . . . how do the Panthers keep the fans from becoming apathetic?

On sports radio in Dayton, I heard a Browns fan say that he has watched all three Browns games this year without getting happy or pissed. He just simply sat on the couch and watched the game. Why? Because the Browns are not good, and the fans know it.

If the Panthers keep playing like they are, i.e. piss poor coaching, non-existent adjustment, poor decision-making at key positions, etc., loyal fans will become like that Browns fan. They will watch because that's what they do. They won't, however, care about the result.

watching the game was a change of tune for me. I used to get pissed when we gave up a play.

now, the performance is so pathetic, i don't get angry anymore. i actually just sit there and shake my head silently, or just laugh. it's become such an awful display of football, i don't care anymore. I'm just going to follow them and hope they can win games, and if they somehow bring it together and eek a playoff berth, which is a hair short of impossible, i'll be pleasantly surprised, however if they lose, i'll be fine with a new regime coming in with some fresh ideas and a motivation to bring new blood in to rejuvenate the team.

I was actually watching Jake drop back, and was thinking, "throw it to Dallas. just turn it over. you know you want to. do it." <----this is what happens when the best QB on your team turns it over 15 times in the last four games.

By bringing back frisbee dogs.

I KNEW someone would post it... rofl

OP: 1. is quite misleading... Did you intentionally overlook Jake's huge improvement since week one???

Why so much depression????

I love the Panthers...A LOT.... but I would never let a regular season game ruin a whole week.. I have more important things to do.. you guys probably do as well

Am I being didactic? Someone hit me...

I'm already at a state of apathy, too. Lost all faith in the staffs ability to get this team prepared and to make proper decisions during the game. I don't blame the players. There is a ton of talent on this team, it's being horridly misused. I watch the games expecting poor play and a loss. If we get a win, well that would be like ice cream with my pie.

Loyalty, you stick with your team through thick and thin... if you supported them last year when they went 12-4 and now you're bailing because they're 0-3 then your a fairweather fan.

Again, one can be loyal and apathetic at the same time. My question has nothing to do with loyalty. Fans will always be loyal.

The question is how does the organization expect to sell the hope/optimism of the team when there is really nothing to be hopeful/optimistic about?
