Belichick just makes smart moves.

I was rolling my eyes and shaking my head when I heard that Billy B had essentially poached Chris Hogan from the Bills last year when they refused to match the Pats' offer sheet to the sneakily efficient receiver last year. Somehow I knew that he could play a key role in helping the Pats to remain dominant.

Now, we have this year, and Billy B is at it again. This time he has the sneakily efficient Mike Gillislee in his cross hairs. The Bills are possible victims yet again. How can they possibly justify matching the Pat's offer.

"The Patriots extended a two-year, $6.4 million offer sheet to Bills running back Mike Gillislee, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported, via a source informed of the situation. The offer includes $4 million in the first year."

Yeah, the hapless Bills are likely going to lose their beast of a backup, and Gillislee will victimize the rest of the league as a perfect complementary piece to the Patriots sneaky good RB stable which already has James White, Dion Lewis and another guy that had me shaking my head in Rex Burkhead.

Bill Belichick understands team chemistry, architecture and the blueprint for success better than anyone else by a mile. He makes largely great moves, and doesn't break the bank doing it. I fancy Dave Gettleman doing the same thing, but Belichick has  PhD and G-man is still trying to get his diploma.

I hope he's studying Belichick very closely.

Idk i feel like a 4 person RB stable is too much. Hopefully this doesn't go through though bc Mike was very efficient last year as a runner and would probably continue to beast on the pats.

On the flip side, Shady is the highest paid rb this year, do the bills really wanna give 6.4m to a backup?

This is a win win for the pats really, but Bill has made some mistakes in the past, I don't want DG copying him. His coaching is superb though( EXCEPT FOR THE fuging CHEATING fug HIM)

It's a lot easier to roster build when one or more decent FAs per year are willing to take below market value to play for you just to ring chase.  Not that he hasn't earned that perk from the culture he's created.

Absolutely they have and every year everyone else plays catch up.

Yeah, he's a great coach, but I would argue that he's just as great of a personnel guy as it pertains to acquiring free agents and trading away players while they still have good value. He's a master at the that. And the Patriot way just keeps on rolling.

You can't doubt Belichick and his ability to put together very competitive teams.  While it may not be the most "fun" team in the NFL to play for, the greatest joy is winning.  The Pats are quite good at that!  It also doesn't hurt that he has Tom Brady to be his QB.

Based on their consistent success, the question is: why not play or coach for the Pats?  Going back to that culture based on wins and success, people will want to stay there.

Keeping the coordinators around, being able to get the best of the best back ups and depth players, having a HoF Head Coach and ageless HoF QB, every move looks very smart.  They also have their systems down to a science, nearly perfected. They know traits that guys need to have to be good for them.

It's a lot more than being smart, he also has had the opportunity to really build up a culture and system to sustain success.

Half of Patriots success is being in a  trash division.

Panthers are gonna smack  them around in the upcoming matchup.

Not denying for 1 second that BB and TB don't make one hell of a duo, but their division is always hot garbage!  I hate it.

They win their division every year which at minimum results in at least one home game for the playoffs. Since they're always good, you can expect them to beat or at least break even with the "contending AFC teams" they play each season. This means they are always in the running to get home field advantage. Since the Belichek/Brady era began, I think the Ravens and the Jets are the only teams to go into Gillette Stadium and get  a win in the playoffs.

Most of the time the didn't make the Super Bowl in the last decade or so, it was a result of having to go on the road in the AFC title game or facing the Ravens. Brady owned Manning in the AFC regular season. But, in the AFC title game Manning was 3-1 against him and each time he had home field advantage. I know Baltimore beat them in 2009 and 2013 in NE. If it weren't for Peyton Manning and the Ed Reed/Ray Lewis Raven teams, Brady and Bill would possibly have 4 or 5 more SB appearances.
