Draftnik Ethan Young Has "0 [Corners] Graded As First Rounders"

I feel like anyone using the name "Wes Horton" when discussing whether or not the Panthers should draft a 1st round DE has probably just freshened up on their quite limited Panthers knowledge with a bit of googling.

He's actually high on Horton, and Delaire. Delaire is questionable, but Horton is warranted with his monstrous performance against the run.

There's a reason our run defense started looking good when Horton was back in the lineup.

CJ has a bad back and anyone can get injured, but he should not be in the top 4, no way.  If we keep 5 or need him on inevitable injury standby, fine.

Ironically he's part of the reason WHY the Panthers need Barnett.

His strong-suit is the secondary from what I'm getting from him. I take his evaluations of DEs with a grain of salt as well, as I think he's questionable with evaluating them.

It's deep as far as corners, but he has a point it doesn't have much top-tier talent. This class is underwhelming at the top, but a ton of 2nd round-3rd round guys who are capable of development.

His background is oline if I remember correctly.   Anyways.. Lattimore is as smooth and fluid an athlete with the size to boot.  I wouldn't bet against him if he vibes with coaches.  Rare talent regardless of how u grade tape.

I follow him on twitter too. Dude is clearly very smart and knows his stuff. However, that doesn't mean he's always right. Its just his opinion. All 32 GMs also know a poo ton about prospects but have big misses too.

Not sure if you were agreeing with him or just generating discussion, but this is just my 2c

In his "big board" he has 3 CBS in his top 32....so not sure how that is not having any 1st round grades.  By default if you rank them at that level it suggests you consider them a first round grade. It's his big board, not his mock...

He also has Fournette at 13 and Ross in the 30s after Henderson.

I'm meh when it comes to "analysts"... I'm just as qualified as most of them, TBQH...

In my opinion, there are a ton of starting CBs in this draft. A lot of them bring different things to the table, but there are several CBs very worthy of being picked in the top 32 picks. In fact, there are currently seven in my top 32 on my Panthers big board. Add in QBs and other guys I don't think are on our board, and it maybe pushes it down to 4-5 CBs in the first round.

A lot of the top corners in this draft aren't man-up island guys, or the prototypical "shut down" corner of days of old. There are, however, a LOT of good zone, read-and-react type CBs, which is a good thing for us.

I think the underlying point to Young's assessment is that there aren't many Man coverage CBs. There are, however, an abundance of zone coverage ones.

Here is some analytics from him before last years draft.

Note that Butler is number one NT

Note that Bradberry and Worley are in the top 7 CB's

Note Beau Sandland as TE

Just saying that Panther brass must adhere to some sort of philosophy similar, he is not worth totally discounting.

And @Saca312, can you find the 2017 version of this 2016 report?

Yep, these "analysts" all need to be read with a disclaimer of "for entertainment purposes only".

I really like hearing Charlie Casserly's take on things. Yeah, he wasn't a great NFL GM, but he WAS an NFL GM. He can give a lot more insight into the draft process and prospect evaluation process than these other "analysts" who've never worked in an NFL personnel department.

I was listening to Casserly last night talking about off field issues. He said for a lot of guy it's a process involving talking to lots of different people and really trying to get down to the bottom of who this guy is. But, he had a few things that were automatic disqualifies. Domestic violence issue? Off the board. Multiple failed drug tests? Off the board. Failed drug test at the combine? 99% chance off the board. C'mon man, you knew the exact day it was coming. If you can't pass that one you either have a problem or you're as dumb as a brick.

Have you posted your Big Board anywhere on here?  Apologies if I've missed it....  Would love to see it!

I have, but I can't remember the thread. I was updating it a bit yesterday, so I will post it here in a minute.
