Opinion: with Short signed, WR time in this draft

If the staff thought WR was a concern, I feel like they would have sniggered around Corey Davis or Mike Williams more, especially since they will be there at #8 by all accounts.
I'm not thrilled with the guys we have brought in for visits/workouts. I think they are targeting WRs in with one of their 2nd round picks. Based on who we brought in that basically means Chris Godwin, Zay Jones, and Carlos Henderson. Everyone else is basically projected in the late round or UDFA.

I think this is the plan. Looking for one in the 2nd round and one in the 6th or 7th. I'm perfectly fine with a double dip. Need to push Benji and Funch to live up to their potential. I still believe in them, but I'm not opposed to giving them some motivation

We are obviously going with big WR's with huge catching radius.  Let Ginn and Philly move on, so we did not value them that greatly.  In a trade down, I could see Davis or Williams, maybe

How is that approach going so far? KB's catch percentage is right around the 50% mark for his career and Funchess is one of the least efficient WRs in the NFL. We don't need more size, we need more separation. Cam has to consistently try to throw into tight windows more than any other QB in the league.

Evidently we really liked both Brandin Cooks and OBJ. Neither are big receivers, so I don't think that we're exclusively looking for giant receivers.

Trying to find a QB, offense scheme, and targets that all match are not that easy.  We can see when it does not work, but we can't just blindly want guys who would fit New England's scheme or New Orleans scheme better, just because we think they could be successful there.  They might be great there, but maybe not here

KB and Funch would do well to have a burner with them it opens the field up for everyone...this is what Ginn did for our offense, if only he had better hands...

I think KB would be better with a legit starting caliber NFL WR opposite him. I think Funchess is probably just a bust. Still hoping he proves me wrong.

I've seen flashes from Funch but the problem is where we took him and what we gave for him... he is not a starter for sure...

What is the drop off between a guy like Jon Ross and a guy like Zaye Jones or Chris Godwin.

Is the WR talent drop off for WR more significant than say DE or S?

The drop off between Ross (with Cam) and Zay Jones is seismic. He's a faster, younger better version of Ginn.

He would open our offense more than any other player in this draft

I'm tired of just seeing flashes. Everyone that gets as much as an NFL straining camp invite is capable of showing flashes. We need consistency out of him. He caught about a third of the balls thrown his way last year. You can't afford to have a guy like that on the field.

Until a surgeon has to open his knees again.

Those knees would take him out of 1st round consideration for me.

He could turn out to be one. His potential is there, and he could become our WR1.

If he puts what we saw in TC on the field, then the sky's the limit. I think it will be a painful journey, but Funch will get there eventually.

yep...just saying if we had drafted him in 5-7 rds we would be a little less critical as well as had a chance to draft a more suitable player for the rd we traded up in to get him...

I'm not sure if he's on the roster if he wasn't a 2nd round pick. Honest to god, I would've rather had Bersin out there last year.
