Because the Huddle is gonna Huddle between the non stop Fournette, McCaffrey, and TMZ, I mean Bwood threads.

My apologies! Did not detect the sarcasm among all the chicken little posting.

People panicked at the Fletcher Cox deal know we were gonna lose KK. We sign KK 20mil cheaper and now Gettleman is destroying the team.....wtf? Now we are losing everyone but no one can explain why! Most still think we drafted Butler to actually replace KK!

Now the concern is do we retain Star.  Also, how can we retain Trai and Norwell now... You will see atleast 1 guard drafted this draft.  I expect about 2-3 Offensive lineman drafted too overall.

And this is exactly why trading away all your draft "gold" (as DG puts it) for ONE player (i.e. Fournette) just can't happen.

You maintain your salary cap by refreshing your roster with cheap (and/or cheaper), young talent on a yearly rotation.  If you don't do that, then what you end up with is a core of highly paid players surrounded by a bunch of UDFA scrubs or FA cast-offs from other teams.

Butler was more of an insurance piece, but added depth will great since DE talent is down little bit.

Long as the player gets to the QB or affects the pass.

Shhhh!  Don't let him know we see through his words about no windows!  Let him think we believe him! :-)

Whether he believes in windows or not, he's acting like there is one, (butt not (yet at least) putting us in cap hell).  I'm all for it.  I like seeing Gettleman making moves, getting things done.  What a change from last season.

As wonderful as a Superbowl run is, it clearly risks causing distraction, complacency, and perhaps a tendency to evaluate team strengths & weaknesses poorly (basking in the glow of an awesome season.)  This offseason is a breath of fresh air, at least on the player moves. (a little less sure on the coaching moves or lack thereof...!).  Dave is being methodical and focused on priorities.

  • Get a veteran LT - check
  • re-sgn our DEs & augment with Peppers - check
  • Get us some support at SS - check
  • Get us help at Nickel - check

We are in very nice shape on defense.  Yes, need depth & young talent at DE & SS, but I'm ready for a draft heavy on offense.  Dave has set us up VERY well on defense.

Two RBs, a TE, and a speedy WR are all in play in this draft.

I posted a few mock drafts in this thread.

In mock draft one we end up with McCaffrey, Njoku, Perine on offense

In mock draft two we get Fournette, Carlos Henderson, Mac Hollins, TJ Logan, Sam Rogers

Wow that's shocking. Was sure we'd play out this year and see how Butler does. Does this mean Star is gone after next year or what? Or just loaded at DT rotation with Star, KK and Butler? Great value deal though for $16M per year. He could've gotten over $18M per on the open market.

I laughed at the thought that drafting Butler had anything to do with Short, and I continue to laugh now that people can't grasp what is right in front of them.

We get those pieces and this offseason is a grand slam

This is terrible logic.

Literally everything went right for us that year. You can't just use what happened in 2015 as a template to success.

I think the point is that this team doesn't value WRs as much as other positions. I think when you have a QB that can elevate the play of non-superstar WRs that you can spend that $$ elsewhere.

It's kind of ironic that the "get Cam weapons!!" crowd doesn't give the Cam credit he deserves to make the players around him better.

A QB like Cam does need a really solid LT, though. Here's to praying Matty K pans out. If he does, our "below average" WR corps will look good and Cam will return to MVP form.

He wasn't trying last year he was mad he was playing on a tag and knew his chance at millions would be gone if he got hurt. Though, you are more likely to get hurt going 75% instead of 100% but Short to me wasn't in it 100% last year.

Oh lawdy.

He doubled as an insurance piece. That's not why he was drafted! Didn't cut Dwill just cause we drafted Stewart
