You mean the same Bo Jackson that never rushed for 1000 yards in a season?

You understand that Bo Jackson only played 10-11 games per year in his NFL career right?

You're old enough to remember the reason for that, right?

And that during that time he shared the backfield with a HoF running back, right?

Did you ever even watch Bo Jackson play in the NFL?

No, the season was the same length back then (16 games).

Bo just played Major League Baseball until October.  The reason he signed with the Raiders was because (1) he warned the Buccaneers NOT to draft him in 1986 because he would not play for their organization (the Bucs had conspired to get Jackson ruled ineligible in his final college baseball season because they wanted him concentrating on football-only and Bo was pissed about that) but they drafted him as the #1 overall player in the 1986 draft anyway (because they thought they had all the leverage in the world) and Bo told them to fug right the hell off and signed with the Kansas City Royals, (2) the Raiders drafted Jackson in the 7th round of the 1987 NFL Draft, and (3) the Raiders said they were perfectly fine with Jackson playing the full baseball season and then coming to play with the Raiders after the MLB season was complete.

The reason that the Raiders did this, already having a future HoF running back on their roster, was because Jackson was an extremely special and unique talent.

Sorry, loved Bo, even in baseball, but he was a marketing legend more than an NFL legend. Anyone not in the top 250 rushers of all time isn't an NFL legend. I understand the mythos behind him, which is what creates that sub 4.2 40, but he rushed for 2700 yards in his 4 year career in 38 games. He just isn't an NFL legend.

Of course, because of a combination of his short seasons and his career ending too soon because of a freak injury.

But if you watched Bo Jackson play and you believe that because he isn't your made-up tag of "legend" that he wasn't a better running back than, let us say, HoF'er NFL "Legend" running backs Emmitt Smith or Marcus Allen or Terrell Davis, then I don't know what to tell ya.

What is all that supposed to mean?

He still not a legend and neither is Walker.

he won two Super Bowls

Did it all on his own did he?  Smith and McCaffrey and, oh, some guy named Elway (and a stout Orange Crush defense) had nothing to do with it?

3 HOFers who won 6 Super Bowls

Did it all on their own, did they?

Or is it the fact that good teams create "Legends"?  Oh, what was that you said in your reply?  The Raider teams Jackson was on only went to one playoff game?  Well, I guess it was Jackson's fault they didn't go to more since he only averaged a paltry 5.4 yards per rush attempt (http://www.pro-football-reference.com/leaders/rush_yds_per_att_career.htm) in four years with the Raiders.

A "legend" would have certainly done more.

(P.S. Davis career 4.6 ypa, Smith 4.2 ypa, Allen 4.0 ypa)

lBo Jackson was a former Heisman trophy winner, played two professional sports MLB and in the NFL, sports icon who was a marketing goldmine, set the record at the NFL combine with a 4.19 40,and the list could go on and on and on... if it was not for an injury ending arguably one of the greatest athletes of the 20th century carrer in sports.

how is he not a legend?

Bo knows you're full of sh t.

No need to get defensive. I am just saying that NFL legends aren't just YPC and a flash. They are super bowls and longevity. Allen and Smith are known for being rocks, i.e. not lasting 38 games. Also, Allen was also an excellent receiver out of the backfield. He had 3 more TDs receiving than Bo had total in his career and his receiving yards doubled Bo's rushing yards.

Also, if you are trying to say anything about Super Bowls and Davis, Allen and Smith were just cogs, then you might want to re-watch the playoff runs:

In 1984, Allen played 3 playoff games and had 584 total yards (195 yards per game) and 6 TDs. He averaged 8.0 yards per carry, so yes, he almost did it all himself. Plunkett passed for 206 yards per game and 2 TDs.

In 1997 and 1998, Davis played 7 playoff games. He had 1156 total yards (165 yards per game) and 11 TDs. Elway threw for 202 yards per game and had 6 TDs. Hmm, seems like Davis was crucial.

In Smith's three Super Bowl win playoff runs, he averaged 133 total yards per game and had 14TDs in 9 games. Aikman performed the best of all QBs and had about 240 yards per game and 17TDs, the only QB to better the RB in TDs.

It's funny that you disregard their Super Bowls as part of a team, yet each of Davis, Allen and Smith won the Super Bowl MVP, i.e. were the best players on their teams that day. They are HOFers/legends and as much as it pains me to say it, Bo's lack of longevity makes him not a HOF type player. He couldn't stay healthy long enough and never ever took the pounding that the 3 backs above did (even Allen had a 380 carry year). He didn't have the NFL impact anywhere close to the other 3, simple as that.

You're building a team from the bottom up.

At running back, you are allowed a choice between a young and healthy Terrell Davis, a young and healthy Emmitt Smith, a young and healthy Marcus Allen, or a young and healthy (football-only) Bo Jackson.

Who do you take?
