Panthers Won't Open Season Against Patriots; Possibility Against Falcons

With the NFL regular season schedule coming up soon on Thursday, rumors about who will start off the season and what matchups are coming have been flying around. Nevertheless, PFT appears to have some pertinent information on who will start off the season and where, which does not include another Panther VS Superbowl Champs rematch, but a possibility at a shot against the Superbowl losers.

The Falcons are on New England’s home schedule this year, but it doesn’t look like the NFL will opt for a second straight Super Bowl rematch on the first Thursday of the season. Ben Volin of the Boston Globe reports that the opener will “almost certainly” involve the Chiefs coming to town.

The Chiefs went 12-4 last season and lost to the Steelers in the divisional round of the playoffs after winning the second seed in the conference as the AFC West champs. The Dolphins and Texans join the Falcons and Chiefs as the other 2016 playoff teams on the Patriots’ home slate, but it appears those games will also come later in the season.

The Falcons, per Volin, will likely be opening their new stadium on Sunday Night Football in Week One. The other three NFC South teams [Panthers, Buccaneers, Saints], Packers, Vikings, Bills, Dolphins and Cowboys are possible opponents.

Discuss.

I have a feeling that Atlanta will host Dallas at the new stadium. Made for TV match up.

Rather not. That would give Atlanta so much confidence given the fact Dallas just got a huge downgrade defensively.

Downgrade from an already mediocre defense? The players they lost weren't all that good to remain with the team. They let them go for a reason. They were replaceable. AND this is before the draft even. Little too quick for that assumption.

They lost pretty much their whole secondary and the few decent players on their D-line. Yes I'm already making that assumption.

Bottom line is, what team will make the better ratings? The Panthers or the Cowboys to open up the season and a new stadium? That's pretty much my argument. But hey, assumptions are always welcome to me. We don't have to agree. I'm just going on numbers and history. We're all guessing here.

Never argued who was more likely to start. I'm arguing that the Cowboys are a competent team anymoreso with that worse defense and a likely tougher schedule this year.
