I'm just hoping that this story isnt also a rehash like the last one was.

Also I am starting to warm up to the idea that Rey is Anakin reincarnated. Almost everyone is expecting her to be Luke or Obi Wans  daughter. I feel like that's almost too obvious.

Would also like to see Luke whoop some ass with a saber and not be killed off.

someone on reddit had a good point- maybe the the force awakens plot line was so similar to a new hope because they knew this movie would be such a strong divergence from the jedi code and overall star wars theme of strictly good vs. evil- i.e. gray jedi

Yoda was reluctant to train Luke after he exiled himself after failing to defeat the emperor. I can see the same here as Luke feels he failed Kylo Ren and doesnt want any part of it. Saying its time for the Jedi to end is just his feelings of failure coming through.

Rouge one was quite possibly the most stupid plain Star Wars movie to date.

Disney has. fuged poo up bad. The first prequels weren't great but they were at least much more interesting storylines.

if Disney isn't copying an old film it's just making filler BS which is necessary but not hours and hours or in rogue 1s case over 2, and any small thing it tries to add in original wise gives you a wtf feeling.

Stop with the kiddie surface story poo in pretty graphics and give us something worth our time. At this point I welcome a movie that copies an old one.

Yeah that Rogue One storyline was total kiddie movie stuff especially when they all died, and when mom was killed in front of her daughter, and when the big city was destroyed, and when dad was killed in front of his daughter

Not what I mean when I say kiddie. I say kiddie storyline as in simple, very very simple. Zero depth. Zero character building. You know why they all die? Because they can, no one cares about them, their characters have no meaning and the movie does not even try to make the audience care about these characters. There is not any relevance to them whatsoever. People who enjoy Rougue One wanted a technically sound movie, which by all means it was, great graphics and war scenes and visuals. The production was A+ I will admit, the substance was F-.

An excellent example of yet another movie sacrificing depth, story and characters for the entertainment factor, because they can...the public will be ok with it and enjoy it nothing wrong with that but not what a true Star Wars fan really looks for.

I believe this movie was meant for people wanting to be entertained and not think a whole lot, again which is fine, just 'kiddie' in that aspect and I can't see a Star Wars fan from the 80s or one who reads he books really enjoying this.

There is a reason great movies from old generations (original Star Wars) hold up over time and hers a hint, it's not the visuals or production. Those get worse as time and technology advances but he depth, substance and character building is there and holds so much more value. I find it hard to believe a movie with no story or substance but great visuals and production will be remembered 30 years from now.

Rogue One is my favorite stars wars movie, I think it's the best one, or at least close with Empire being up there.

The stakes felt real on Rogue One and obviously they were.  Star Wars is about the "war" but you never really felt stakes until Rogue One.

As a guy who's read almost every Star Wars book put into print (FU Kevin J Anderson, Barbara Hambly, and Vonda McIntyre), I am completely OK with it being low brow serial schlock....because that's what it is.  Flash Gordon on steroids and a massive marketing budget.

The one place Star Wars had good character depth was in the Clone Wars cartoon, except the last subpar season on Netflix.  And I have to be honest, ANH didn't have much depth either.  But it doesn't have to, it is perfect for what it is.

The first two books out post Star Wars, Splinter of the Minds Eye and Han Solo at Stars End, had a decent amount of characterization work and really fleshed out the characters quite a bit, although SotME got the SW plot line terribly wrong. So us hardcore fans got more of the characters we liked, and the movies could just be the movies. A lot of long time fans have gotten their impressions of the characters from stuff in books.

Hated Barbara Hambly too LOL. Sucks Brian Daley died so young, he nailed everything about Han Solo as far as I'm concerned.

The opening scene of the book would be a great thing to film for sure. The Z-95 vs TIE (I always assumed the Corporate Sector ships described as prototypes were TIES) battle, the swoop chase and the barges...man there were a lot of great things going on in that first book. Second book kind of sucked. The third was great I thought, looking for that treasure.
