Longtime Jerry Richardson friend Dan Rooney (Steelers Owner) passes away

As I've mentioned before, I was born in Pittsburgh in 1970 and was spoiled beyond reasonable belief with the success of the Steelers in the 70s. No organization is 100% perfect, but I can say that the way the Rooney's approached the right ideals for building a successful organization has always shaped my whole basis of judging everything I think about football. It's probably why I preach tolerance and patience with coaches and GMs. Sometimes to a fault, admittedly. But I've only known 3 HCs in 40+ years of successful football, so it has proven to work for them.

As for the man, I think the comments coming in from peers and players speak for themselves. Here was a man that took the time to talk to me as a 9 year old at Steeler training camp. I was in awe. He took me over to meet Jack Lambert and Jack Ham(my father and my favorite players). We were nobodies. That what that family is all about. I'm not too proud to say I shed a tear yesterday. The world and the NFL community lost a great man whose contributions will be felt for a long time to come.

Thank you Mr. Rooney. I will never forget you.
