Why ask the question when you already know you're not getting an answer?

It doesn't help matters that he always asks in an accusatory manner.

Because it's his job to get the answer. The FO shouldn't be allowed to have a pass. They wouldn't get that pass in a major market.

Can you imagine if Cam threw three picks and then cam into a presser and said "I'm not talking about the interceptions". GTFO.....

Joe wasn't asking irrelevant questions....they were questions RR didn't address well the first time so he felt he needed to defer to the doctors

Refusing to give an answer doesn't equal "getting a pass". Regardless of market, coaches and GMs constantly refuse to answer questions or give roundabout answers. Joe can write an article roasting the team for not addressing issues to his liking, but the guy obviously rubs people within the Panthers' organization the wrong way and that likely impacts his ability to properly do his job. He might be the nicest guy in the world for all I know, but the guy is a hack at his job.

I tend to agree with you about the Person stuff....but let's switch the paradigm for a second.

Maybe our media is weak because no one ever asks our FO and coaches the tough questions or challenges them. Maybe they can't challenge them because their access will be cut off. And then when someone like Joe does ask tough questions, all of us homer fans jump all over him for being a dick. I mean, isn't Joe just asking questions that would normally get asked in a media market that isn't fragile like Charlotte? (the answer is yes, btw) Hell....we have an owner (and I'm a JR fan) who hasn't address the fan base or media directly in how many years? Is that normal? Doesn't seem like it.

But back to your point about current sports media....and yes I'm aware I'm always quick to defend Bill...it's because 1) we're friends, 2) I would see how hard he would bust his ass to put out content, 3) I think he's the best we have (had) 4) I'm aware of his sources so when people say he doesn't know what he's talking about it's fuging comical as hell and I feel mostly sad and embarrassed at how dumb our fan base is, and 5) people want to constantly bitch about media driving traffic to their sites when it's the only way they get paid - that model is broken. We constantly bitch about wanting great content but we won't pay for it - it HAS to be free - and then we criticize these people for trying to make a living. The entitlement is fuging annoying.

So yeah....while I may not be the biggest Person fan, I'll never fault the guy for doing his job. And I think losing BBR is a pretty big blow. But until we sack up as a fan base we'll continue to be one of the worst media markets.

You're right, we do need someone willing to ask tough questions. This has been discussed here before, and it is definitely valid. But what I was talking about with Person is him for example embarrasing himself in a press conference by asking over and over about contract negotiations when DG had explicitly stated he won't talk about it, or running a bizarre story about Brandon Lafell's baby mama, and their kids. That's just being a douchenozzle.

As for the fans, I agree there are a lot of ungrateful jackasses. I certainly try not to be that way. However unfortunately that sort of thing just comes with the territory if you're in a sports media role, fans are and inevitably always will be irrational.

Regarding our owner, been there done that brotato. At the end of the day whatever you feel about JR, there is no disputing the league and the owners pockets come first.

Like I originally said, I tend to agree about Person being a little annoying. I've just had the opportunity for the last few months to work on a project that's afforded me the chance to see how these things work from the other side - their side. And while us fans may see Person as a hack (I don't agree with that) or say Bill doesn't know poo, we should all slow our rolls a little and realize that there's always another side to the story. We don't know nearly as much as we think we do.

Ha! No arguments from me about those instances for sure.

This. Person just lacks any tact whatsoever in the way he does his job. It's almost like the guy actively tries to sabotage himself an destroy his relationship and reputation with the very organization he's supposed to cover. You can ask tough questions without coming across as a dick and/or idiot.

For the record, I'm the guy who told TD that he ended Terrence Murphy's career. That was awkward.

It seems like the Panthers org don't fancy tough questions and blow people out who try that. Even weak poo that isn't nothing gets blown out by our FO....it's weak IMO.

FWIW....I stumbled on a Bucs blog site today and read an article about Cook. Pretty much 100% of the comments we're talking about how much of a bad ass Cook is and how much of a joke it is that CM would go before him. Those FL boys are obviously FSU homers, but I still found their perspective and how obviously better Cook is to them to be interesting

Cook's fumble issues would make AP look like the best ball handler in history

    • At this rate, maybe he'll be a decent 8-9 QB on his 3rd HC by year 6. Standards are so low around here now. Tepper has done some serious damage to the fan base.
