I may be going against the grain here but I don't like the Zay Jones pick. Fournette and Taco are fine with me.

Not to argue your opinion but did you see the Senior Bowl?  Zay Jones was all over the place.  Caught everything thrown his way and really impressed me.

As a former ECU student, back in the days of Terry Long, I try to stay away from ECU players just because of my loyalty to the Pirate football team.   But this young man is a baller.   I would love to see him with Cam.

Yep!  I watched his games on draftbreakdown.com, and I think they way underutilized him at ECU.  They wanted him underneath as a safety valve, but I think he could have been a dangerous downfield threat if they used him there more.  But this is why I think he is underrated by many people.  I can't tell you how many balls I saw him catch that were thrown perfectly at his shoes.  His QB was just atrocious.

Honestly, I think he has the speed, route running, and speed to be an eventual #1.  And he demonstrated time and time again that he's not afraid to go over the middle.  IMO, he's going to be a stud.

I think Trubisky goes to the Bearst and don't be surprised if the Jets panic and take Watson at 6.

This would open a stud for us at 8.

This.  If the Bears take a QB, it could cause a ripple effect.  The 49ers and Jets could easily then pull the trigger on a QB themselves.

Until sports writers understand the number of people Stewart has to make miss before he even gets to the line of scrimmage, there is no hope of viewing anything objectively. If we were to draft Fournette at 8 and he averages 3.5 YPC, talking heads will say he wasn't as good as projected. The reality is far more complicated, especially considering Stew is one of the most elusive big backs in the league.

In a nutshell: I don't trust their analysis when they only use YPC to judge Stewart and justify us picking up a running back. The line was atrocious at times last season. Put Stew behind what Shanahan was running last season in Atlanta and he would easily be considered one of the best backs in the league.

That's not really the reality of the situation. Stew is the best tackle breaking back in the league right now. But his patience and ability to find the best hole last year left quite a bit to be desired. And when he breaks a few tackles and gains space, his lack of speed to break away makes those broken tackles not nearly as good as if he could gain more yards after. Many backs will break less tackles than Stew but after making a guy miss will be gone or will get 20 yards before being caught where Stew would get 10-15. And note that he's 30 years old with a long history of lower body injuries. Runningbacks are on the back nine at 28. I absolutely love Stew and am glad we extended him and are keeping him, because of his pass protection, locker room presence and he's still a solid player, just not an elite back or ideal guy to have carry the load.

Fournette is 100% the pick if he's there and someone like Garrett or Thomas isn't. He'd immediately step in as our starter and Stew would be a breather and third down back, which would be ideal for him. Perfect situation for our run game if we can add Fournette to move Stew down a bit.

    • When we drafted Luke, we already had Cam, Smith, Olsen, Stewart, Deangleo, Gross, Kalil, CJ, Hardy, Beason, TD, Gamble (and maybe more I'm forgetting), we had a lot of great pieces in place. Going pure BPA for a player with Luke's potential when the LB you already have is different when you already have all those pieces in place.  Our OL right now is probably in a better shape than that team and our RBs and TE have potential compared to proven vets back then, but after that, the 2012 roster was in a far better shape than we are right now. We need a #1 WR, DEs, LBs, DBs, C, and depending who you ask a QB.  Going BPA at pick #5 when that player is a DT and your current best player on either side of the ball is a DT, seems irresponsible. If he's the only player they like that high left, then you trade back and go with position of more need at a slot that makes sense for the player while adding other picks.  If you trade back and he falls because other teams don't need/want a DT, then you consider him at that point because of the value.
    • This sounds like the same back and forth when we drafted a LB when we already had a LB or as mentioned prior back to back DLs. I want the BPA, if it is another DT so be it. (No not a kicker/punter for those people that think they are funny))
    • I’m hoping SMU messes it all up and wins out. Imagine the SEC & BI0 would crap themselves trying to “fix” the problem.
