Another Christian McCaffrey thread?

Recommended Posts

LT "After thinking about it, of all these top ten teams there's one that would be an easy transition and that's with the Carolina Panthers.  If you think about it, you already have Jonathan Stewart so McCaffrey wouldn't be asked to be that 3 down back or have 20+ touches. Jonathan Stewart can wear the defense down and this young man can come in in a variety of ways, playing in space, which could help the Panthers a lot "

Meh, we looked like poo with the same personnel plus Benji for the first four games.  Both he and Shula were trash.

No we didn't. Until the injuries started we had a top 10 offense. We finished the year at 15th in points which is the only stat that really counts. So there were 17 teams who scored fewer points.

Bust through our soft ass O line ?

Sorry to rain on your parade but it all starts up front and we have done little to allay my fears of a repeat of last year.

Actually as much as I was on Gettleman for not bringing in veterans last year and over relying on the draft, he seems to have learned his lesson. Bringing in Kalil was a great move. If chemistry is one of the most important elements then that should be great this year. BTW did you see the interview when Matt was sitting next to Ryan. Matt is much bigger and has the potential to build even more. I am expecting good things. Even if Oher doesn't come back. I like Williams and our guards need no hype. They are very good. We even signed some depth. I think this line will be top 10 at least maybe better. Get ready to rumble. This is 2005 all over after a poor 2004 after our first Superbowl loss. Now it is 2017 after a poor 2016 following our second Superbowl loss. Only this time we are going to go all in. Peppers didn't come back for the money.

You don't pick players to match the OC game you pick the best players and adapt the gameplan. If he can't adjust you can the OC. Trust me if Shula gets his weapons and we still suck he won't be here after this year. Last year we had not enough talent and too many injuries on offense. If Cam hadn't had the tools either did Shula. You can't have it both ways.

Based on what?

He's about a thousand times more versatile, fills bigger needs, and just fits our system better.  If they're serious about "evolving" our offense, McCaffrey is a no brainer at 8 unless Thomas, Adams, or Hooker falls and they just can't turn it down.

Agreed....It makes me crazy to hear nonsense about "not fitting" what we do....

So let's keep going back to the same ole same ole....a bruiser running into the LOS and creating 3rd and longs for Cam and our inconsistent WR's....

Here is the thing. Shula set himself up in 2015 when Cam was the MVP and we had the number 1 offense in scoring that year. So even though we had all the injuries to the line( which we know is critical to a Shula offense) and finished 15th in points which is middle of the pack, we were awful and the coaches admitted they were too predictable. They were going to evolve. Whatever that means. I hope it means we are going to load up on the offense in the first 3 rounds given that only 4 of Gettleman's 12 picks were offensive guys so far. I love a great defense and think we are already going to be pretty good. I want to give Rivera and Shula the tools they need so that it is on them. I actually expect Shula to embrace this challenge. Look how he evolved the running game in 2015. Now that the refs have made it unwise to run your quarterback who is open to blatant head shots, we have to change to a more diverse quick passing game which protects Cam and the offensive line when breakdowns occur.  That doesn't always mean flatter routes it can also.means gaining  initial separation and then have Cam hit quick hitters into gaps. But I am with you that it is put up or go away as long as Shula gets help. I don't want the three guys to be all defensive picks like last year. Fournette, McCaffrey, Howard, Ross or whoever. The offense is due. Then let's hold his feet to the fire.

I just keep thinking that by "evolve" what Ron means is "keep doing the same things but HARDER and BETTER this time!"

I hope not.

But that's what I'll believe until I see differently.

Fingers crossed.

Me too. I think our choices will tell us plenty about what is important and which side of the ball we value the most in the draft.
