Multiple Front Office Execs Believe Christian McCaffery Will Go In Top 10

They really really like him....but zero chance we pick him at 8....Zero. If we trade out of that spot then he becomes a top target.

If/When Fournette and Adams are gone, the only other guy would be Howard who I could envision us taking.  Even Adams I'm not sure of since he's a safety, but it would make a lot of sense.  I seriously doubt we are giving Barnett much consideration but I could be wrong.  I just don't really think he fits here.

I think it would be between Howard and McCaffrey at that point, and I certainly think his odds of being picked would be higher than 0.

You have to think about the Panthers mindset.  They want long sustained drives from the offense.  They want to move the chains.  They want to win time of possession.  This was a problem last year because the offensive line could not consistently open holes on 1st and 2nd down, and could not maintain blocks long enough for the vertical passing game they needed on 3rd down.

Enter McCaffrey.  The offense evolves.  More quick passes.  More 6-7 yard swing passes on first down.  More 8 yard slants from the slot.  More misdirection that might actually cause a defender to move where we want him to move. Cam's completion % goes up.

8 is a little high for him, but that's the pick we have.  He would probably make more of a difference to our ball control offense than any other person in this draft.  If we can trade down a few spots I think we will.  Otherwise there is a pretty decent chance he's our guy at 8.

This sort of feels like the Keuchly debate.  Many thought we didn't really need him, we were covered at LB.  Others thought his numbers in college were inflated - many of his tackles were downfield or pile-on tackles. But people underestimated Keuchly's intelligence, instincts and desire to learn and get better.  These are traits I believe the Panthers consider very seriously and are traits McCaffrey seems to have in abundance.

Nice post =)

More and more, I'm just trying to take out my opinion on who we pick.  Instead, I will try to think about how each guy we talk about can improve us.

When thinking about McCaffrey, he fits directly in line with the "evolution" of our offense.  He can be an absolute killer on those RB routes as well as a killer slot guy.  Not to mention his return abilities.  He's not a 20+ carries a game guy, but you get him 15 touches a game, and he's going to be killer (based on body of work and underwear olympics).  He could help in this offensive transition as a swiss army knife player, while we can draft a more traditional RB later in the draft.

Probably right - 8 is just too high.  So how far can they drop down and still be reasonably sure they can get him?  Does anyone else want him?  Philly at 14?  Indy at 15?

I'd like to slide back to 12, get an extra 3rd from Cleveland, and still get our guy (if he's our guy).

To people who think I'm off base on McCaffery, I ask you this: why should he succeed where Reggie Bush failed? Because they are both similar players and bush was the greatest college player I have ever seen.

so why is McCaffery going to succeed where Reggie Bush failed??

This. Bush was so fudging electric in college and didn't do much of anything in the nfl

8 is too high for him. Derek barnett needs to be the pick. Id love soloman thomas but im not willing to trade up to the #2 pick. We already have j. Stew and if we need a rb, we can take one in the second or third in this deep class. Zeke was a top 5 pick last year, jordan howard was a 5th round pick. Zeke was first in the league in rushing and jordan howard was second. IN THE LEAGUE. You can get great rbs in later rounds. No need to inflate rb values into the top 10.

They claim they are going to "Evolve" the Panther offense.  What better way than to draft a player like McCaffery to pair with Stewart.  The only question is will Shula be able to throw together an effective offense with those tools.  A swiss army knife in McCaffery that they could pretty well put anywhere and a power back who could plow his way thru for short yard gains.  They could always draft a power back later in this draft or in the coming years to eventually replace Stewart.

I also like the Idea of drafting Fournette if he falls to us, as he clearly stands out in this years RB class but we will essentially have 2 running backs that bring a similar run game.

I also like the idea of drafting Howard as he brings a lot to the table but TE is not a position of immediate need but more of an insurance policy for coming years, but if Shula can come up with an effective game plan to use Howard and Olsen together that could be scary for opposing teams and help in protecting Cam.

I guess the big question is the options at 8 to draft a game changing offensive player at 8 to help in our "evolving" offense is there but can Shula utilise them effectively to make a change for the better.

Someone seriously needs to make a comprehensive McCaffrey analysis thread like Saca did for Fournette. Too many people saying he's too light, not durable, can't run through the tackles. Someone made a fournette shotgun run video, I think we need a McCaffrey inside power runs video. We already know he's fast as , shifty, and can catch, outrun people on the outside/in space. But what can he do in a crowd with big ass NFL D lineman and linebackers trying to punish him at the same time?

In what kind of revisionist history world does 10,000 all-purpose yards equal "not much of anything"?

Bush had two 1k seasons and less than 10k all purpose yards barcoding to a quick google search. Going off of memory, he was never that good imo. When we played the saints i was more worried about sproles than bush

The more i read up on Bush's stats the less impressed i am with him. If he was so good why was he traded for a backup safety too? If you want to draft a guy not as good as bush was in college at 8 fine, thats your problem
