Welp, The 16-17 Season Just Died, Unceremoniously

And the worse part is that there isn't much we can do in the off season to get much better.  I guess if the team can stay healthy next season, they may win a few more games but they won't be contenders.  There are probably only 2-3 players on the roster that any of the other teams in the league would be interested in trading for.  Kemba, Lamb, and Frank and I wouldn't be willing to trade any of them.  And with the drafting history the current regime has, I'm not expecting to get a player that's going to drastically change our fortunes.  And we are going to have no money to spend in free agency so not going to get better that way.  The front office may surprise me and pull off some moves to improve the team but I just don't see it happening.

Exactly.  Like I was saying about the Plumlee deal.  It made absolutely no sense.  We have no flexibility this offseason, and no real assets that would allow us to gain any flexibility.  The only thing Plumlee would be good for is in trading salary for a superstar who is already making a ton, but he and that contract are so bad, i doubt anyone would be willing to absorb that even if we threw in first rounders for the next 3 years.  Batum played like poo after signing a big deal, so his trade value has pretty much bottomed out.  And if we tried to do a mega trade, it would cost us the one or two actual assets worth keeping and would be a net loss by destorying our core.  Bleak outlook going forward.

Fire Rich Cho or keep struggling. The guy cannot draft, sucks in free agency, and only knows how to trade which is not good when you do not have many assets.

The Plumlee trade alone should be enough to get any GM in the NBA fired. 2 ppg and 1 rpg for over 12 million a year.......yikes.

I think i have detailed enuf in other threads how much we keep kicking the can down the road. From making a bad decision like Lance, to Hawes and then Plumlee. From passing on Beal, to forcing MKG down our throats, and passing on Booker.

The position needs have been duct taped or straight up ignored. We need a new GM - the Plumlee deal solidified that

I'm good with Kemba, Zeller, & Frank.  Never thought a chance in hell I'd say that at the beginning of the year haha.

Marvin has done what he can, MKG has run his course but still has an NBA future, Batum showed us why he frustrated Portland.  Belinelli, Lamb, etc. are just team hoppers at this point.

We need to look at a team like Utah to get things right in my opinion.  They can't foxtrot through this next season and sustain interest.

I don't think anyone should give any money to this team unless they fire Cho.    It's not working.

Anyway I really don't see us doing anything for years now.   Kemba and these guys can probably keep us in the 8/7 seed run but that's it.

I hate to say it, but Cho has put us in a position where trading Kemba may be a reality, and I hate that.

We just lost to Miami.

No heart (Outside of Kemba).  No consistency.  Atrocious defense, with hardly anyone who can guard their man 1-on-1.  Just embarrassing and disappointing.

Game plan: tanking for the number 1 pick.

Silver and the NBA owe Hornets something after taking the Allstar game away from us. Everything about sports is rigged, especially in the NBA. With HB2 repeal, the balls are going to someway fall in our favorite: we get either the no1 or no2 pick. If we make the playoffs then that can't happen. MJ is still winning some games like toward the end of the season like now to only sell some tickets.

    • Exactly the type of thing he would have done here. The excuse people were stannin’ so hard claiming he would have looked just as bad. Just not true.
    • Yes and there aren't 32 starting QBs in the league either. Too many teams and too many games. The NFL has regressed over the years and game quality is lacking. The other leagues are supposed to be farm leagues but it doesn't matter. You just won't have 32 no matter what they do. The move to super athletes playing QB at all levels has lead to this. It used to be those guys played other positions but now they are QBs who can't really QB.  It has a trickle down effect too. OL can't block because they never had to. The fact that in today's game your QB must be able to run at least a little to survive is evidence of this as well. IMO they have ruined the game same as with the NBA. It's been simplified to the point of being boring.  Just look at the top 10 this season. Patrick Mahomes (Chiefs) Joe Burrow (Bengals) Josh Allen (Bills) Lamar Jackson (Ravens) Dak Prescott (Cowboys) Jalen Hurts (Eagles) Brock Purdy (49ers) Jordan Love (Packers) Justin Herbert (Chargers) Matthew Stafford (Rams) Once we get to number 5 the stats look like this: 167 262 1,845 63.7 7.0 10 8 65 18 84.5   47.5   10 TDs and 8 INTs??? At number 5??? There was a time not that long ago that he wouldn't even be a starter.
    • I'm not convinced that the NFL is any better or worse at developing QBs now than they were 20 years ago.  I mean I'm sure there are some developmental issues at play, just not sure it is any different than it has been. The biggest difference IMO is that NFL teams are waaaaaaaay more willing to invest a 1st round pick into a QB now than they were 15-20 years ago.  A guy like Colin Kaepernick would probably be a top 5 pick in 2025, whereas he went in the 2nd in 2011.  Would a guy like Trey Lance go top 3 in 2010?  Hell no.  Look at Russell Wilson - he didn't go until the 3rd round.  The standard for being a 1st round QB has dropped. So it may seem like we're seeing more high-profile busts at the position, but we're also seeing teams reach for QBs way more than they have in the past.  Someone with Anthony Richardson's college resume doesn't go in the top 3 20 years ago.
