I'm calling it, Panthers Trade up to #2 for Fournette

First off in case you missed it, rumor has it that the Panthers and 49'ers are in Trade Talks for #2

Now, after reading that the Panthers are very high on Fournette this year, and to quote Ron Rivera "No pick is too high for a running back".  and that the fact that feelings from Fournette are mutual with "is it possible for me to fall to the Panthers". I believe the Panthers will move up to #2 in a trade with the 49'ers to jump the Jaguars who will most likely pick Fournette if he drops to them.

Trade will be Panthers first round pick this year (#8), and two second round picks (#40 2017, 2nd round pick 2018), Panther still hold the last pick in the second round, but it's the old Patriots pick, and a second round pick for next year in the 2018 Draft would hold more potential value. 

For value purposes the Panthers two second round picks this year hold the same value as the 23rd pick in the draft, it will be an equivalent of #8 and #23 for #2.

#8 (1400) + #40(500) +64(270)/(Panthers 2018 2nd) = 2170(2480-2170 depending on 2018 2nd) or basically pick #3 (2200 value) in this years draft. (2018 2nd would have potential of 580-270)

49'ers bite because they will still have many good options at #8, and pick up more picks which they really need.

In a draft this deep, I have a hard time believing we'd be this stupid.

DG just recently talked about how moving moving up 8 spots from the 3rd round to the bottom of the 2nd (for Kony Ealy) was like getting "gold".

Doing something like this is like throwing that gold in a fountain.

I hope not, but we shall see.

Added benifit of a good running game is to keep the defense rested and off the field more often.

Comparing our OL and the 2016 Cowboys OL is pretty laughable. That isn't apples to oranges, it's turds to gelato.

I don't see that value is moving to #2 for a RB. RB is a significantly devalued position in the NFL. Wouldn't warrant what we would have to pay, IMO.

This move would be very Hurney-esque, and while people may point to the drafting of Stew they'd also need to note  the drafting g of Otah as well. Thte hings that made the 2015 Carolina offense so effective were the (surprisingly good) blocking and the field position. I don't follow college football so I trust that Fournette is a pretty good player, but the OL is still a big question mark for me and Carolina has done nothing to improve the secondary edge blocking (though Tolbert's release may be addition by subtraction). Gurley in LA is a perfect example of what happens to good back behind poor blocking and I think any number of guys could have had a similar year in Dallas last year behind that line. Zeke is damn good, but that OL is too.

Personally, I think a guy like Howard brings way more to the table in terms of immediate benefit and versatility. Better blocking and a stronger short passing game will open the run up for whatever back may be lined up, Fournette or otherwise, and make Cam's life easier all around.

   I've been an advocate of selecting Fournette as much as anyone. But a trade like this would be insane. I want the guy, but not at a cost of two probable starters at other positions of need.

I like the idea of Howard, and I expect him to be there at our pick, but I just see more impact on our team if we go RB over TE, we already have Olsen, who is arguably the best TE in the game right now so TE isn't exactly top 10 pick need for us.  And WR for us may be set if KB returns to his old self. 

There isn't anyone on in this draft worth a top 10 O-line pick. so If we don't go Fournette I believe we go defense.  

Also the Otah, Stewart draft was awesome, we can't predict that Otah was going to be injury prone and love food more then a NFL career but the dude looked like he was going to be a all pro for the rest of his career the year we drafted him, and Stewart turned out great overall.

I don't think so and don't like it, as I still see at least a 50% chance he's available at 8.

One thing that needs to be repeated however is the trade value chart is only a guideline.  The same reasons we don't want to move up to two are the same reasons the 49ers do, and why Lynch has openly said they're open to it.  

IF it happens it would not cost as much as the value chart says, in this case.
