Now, I doubt this is a guy we'll be picking up all things considered with our needs vs luxuries, but Alabama LB Ryan Anderson visited the Panthers:

I wrote a bit on the kid in the Huddle mock draft. Here's a peak:

A vastly underrated player, Anderson brings an edge and personality that'll spark up a defense. A part of Alabama's star-studded front seven, Anderson found himself to be part of the shadows in the bright lights that surrounded Bama's pride and joy. However, that's not to say he wasn't productive.

Anderson had 61 tackles, 31 unassisted, in 2016 as an edge player. And those numbers could skyrocket as an inside linebacker.  He has good speed to cover ground as an inside linebacker. Saban knows he can make plays in the backfield. He had 39.5 career tackles for loss at Alabama. Letting him play in the box and fill running lanes may be the best way to use him.

What NFL team will likely do is use the kid as an inside linebacker to shore up their ever growing need in that area. He brings about an edge and strong mentality to a defense, and will whip anyone acting foolish into shape. He's been noted to have been the 'top dog' in practices and making sure nobody was doing any funny business. His trademark scowl will definitely scare any defender into ensuring they do their job.

A tone-setter, aggressive, and strong leader for any defense that desperately needs one.

Seems like an ideal Klein replacement. He could probably cover multiple positions. The only thing that is interesting is that he might go has high as round 2 but Panthers might be hoping he would be available with comp pick in the 3rd. 

I don't really know how I feel about a backup player in the first 2 rounds, but feel better around 3rd and after.

In all fairness, I think we do need to be safe especially with a position as important as MLB. Luke missed 3 games in 2015 and then 6 in 2016. Should we trust our backup LB positions to Mayo, Cash and Ben Jacobs? 

I wouldn't mind round 3 and after.

This makes a lot more sense. Panthers are looking for the heir apparent to Shaq Thompson once Shaq fills in TD's shoes.

I doubt that someone is a 250+ inside linebacker.

Probably just DG and the Panthers doing their due dilligence in case Anderson slides.

Could be a combo of maybe the defense moving towards adding odd man fronts in sub packages, or a future WLB or SLB when Davis hangs them up. Orrrrr, could be a Luke insurance policy that they could cash in as an asset down the line in a trade.

We know DG loves assets and Williams could prove to be a valuable one in the future if the cards fall right.
