Panthers should have just put Bene on IR.

one can only wonder what he'd be doing now if he never broke his leg in that falcons game in 2015. what he could've contributed to our run that year as well

fuging atlanta. even when we're wiping their existence off the face of the earth in a game, they still somehow manage to take something away from us.

Bene looking to be in shape now. Rehab took longer than expected.

Sure would have been nice to have him healthy this year. Cutting him for admitting he was winded against Julio Jones wasn't a good move.

Sure were a lot of people here cheering when he got cut, though. A lot of folks were wanting blood from someone each time we lost and many times when we won.

Here's the bene timeline.

Bradberry goes down, bene steps in and gets totally burnt.

Panthers cut him Friday after much debate.

About 3-4 teams put in wavier claim, Miami wins.

After a few weeks Miami cuts him as well, no one claims him this time.

Bene signs onto miamis' practice squad.

Cut form practice squad at seasons end, not even given a future s contract.

Green bay signs him to Their practice squad in the playoffs.

Green bay cuts him after playoff loss.

Free agency starts, time passes

Bene vists NY Jets, no contract is given.

Bene signs cheap deal with Bengals.

Now this where the panthers also look correct in hindsight. I mean it was a tough decision, but if the medical staff says he's healthy, it's tough to IR him. I was a bene guy, but recovery form injuries is a skill too. In a short time a few teams cut ties completely with bene, thats saying plenty. Offseason player workouts are a little subjective, given that's the best time to use PEDs. Hope he has a nice career.

This is spot on.  We don't really know what happened.  Maybe the Panthers wanted to IR him (which would have ended his season) and he wanted out instead.  The fact 3-4 teams were sniffing around suggests someone thought he could still play.  We, on the other hand, needed to find someone better.  He's not a "scapegoat" if he really is sucking.

You mean like when they cut Stephen Hill when he tore his ACL instead of putting him on IR.

Oh wait........

Its not like this was charity, he felt like Stephen Hill was talented and would be an asset, just like he felt like Benwikere was no long an asset. As with both cases he was wrong.

Way too early to tell with Bene unless box jumping just replaced pass defending as a cornerback or safety's main job.  This tweet was about the offseason last year. He wasn't cut in the offseason, he was cut during the season. And let's be real here, if he is stronger and more ready this year it is possible that getting cut and picked up gave you the motivation to work harder.  Having recovered from just an ACL replacement, the rehab required diligence and persistence. You have to embrace the pain as a sign of progress and focus on the goal. With his injury it was likely more traumatic and certainly possible it physically took this long to recover. My point was given we keep guys around with injuries and don't cut them if they are still hurt, why do that with Bene given going on IR wasn't exactly a rare occurrence. They had to feel Bene wasn't putting in the work and dogging practice at some level. I don't think you can cut someone who is still injured.  So maybe this is actually a win win. He has a do over and we can move on to Adams. Would he really have started on this team this year?
