TE Evan Engram To Visit The Panthers

The speedy nightmare in Engram is set to meet with the Panthers soon. While he likely would need to put on a lot more weight to be considered as a TE2 in our system, he still would be a matchup nightmare on the field with Olsen. Being the fastest TE in Indy, he's turned a lot of heads.

I would really like this pick up to eventually replace Olsen as the lead threat in regard to being a pass catcher at the TE position. Many forget Olsen was not known AT ALL for his blocking when we picked him up for a 3rd round pick.

I still think we need to add a true blocking TE to the roster however.

Notice the TE comparison chart at the end...quite honestly if we can add Fournette, with one of the TE's (most likely Njoku or Engram), Kalil returning to form given injury history the last couple of seasons, and the good vibes surrounding Oher pan out we would have IMO one of the best offenses in the league.

I think Byrd/Johnson can replicate Ginn's production at receiver, I'm not too worried about his loss. But when you consider this line-up that could look like this how could you not be excited as a fan...

Newton

Stewart/Fournette

KB/Funchess/Byrd/Johnson <<< I'm not as down on this group as some

Olsen/Njoku or Engram

Kalil/Norwell/Kalil/Turner/Oher

Engram is really another big receiver with speed. Might be a good pick if he is willing to block. Blocking technique can be taught. A willingness to block and do the dirty work is either there or it isn't. That and his attitude are likely to be what we look at.

He is a willing blocker. He's just not that great at it at the moment.

Then it shouldn't be a huge problem going forward.  Blocking technique is all about leverage not how big you are. Olsen was a good but not great blocker when he came here but he is now. He would be an excellent mentor for anyone we bring in.
