Honestly I am not even sure of his name. Just know he's the guy who hates DG and our rookie corners. Apparently, all of them had sex with his ex-girlfriend.

Yeah that's the guy I mean. He hasn't been on here in a while

I dont think Gettlemen is dumb enough to give up the house to move up a few spots to pick 1 player.  he would need to prolly move up to the 2nd pick just for insurance to get said player,  that 2nd pick is valued at 2600.  Carolinas pick 8 is only 1400, pick 40 is 500, and pick 64 is 270.  They would have to toss in that 3rd round pick just to sweeten the deal imo.  If he was planning this and a trade was already a done deal, then why spend time and resources scouting lots of players that will be available in the 2nd round.  just saying.  This trade will not happen. forgetaboutit.

garrett plus pep would be ridiculous and would instantly mask any deficiencies in the secondary. we have very few holes on the team and did a great job in free agency, so if the front office feels like garrett can be a blue chip player with us for a decade it's a great move.
the price would probably be both of our second-rounders, or a second this year and our first next year.

I want to agree with this, because I agree we have a good roster and one good pass rusher could put us over the top next season. However I think a deep draft like this is an opportunity to add solid players to develop behind some of our aging leaders. Ryan Kalil, Olsen, Stewart, and CJ are all up there. Keeping all of our picks in the top 100 this year seems like a huge opportunity to build our future.

A trade with SF could involve a certain tagged DT.

Rumor has been that they liked Allen.

Would be a helluva move to leverage another player, with no cap consequences, to move 1.8 to 1.2.

Just to play along, who would they be moving up to get?

We already know Short plays at a high level. Essentially, we would be giving up a player that if re-drafted would go top 10, plus our number 8 pick. You had better get a damn good player, like a perennial all-pro, to come out on top of that deal.

I think most of us know that we're renting KK on a one-year deal at this point.

KK wants a Payday

The idea here would be to move up without leveraging our entire draft to do so.

Leveraging short accomplishes this at the cost of a 1 year defensive tackle rental

That is something taken for granted by many here, that KK is going to leave.

I just don't buy it. We have the money to sign anyone we want. Sure, DG is trying to work out the cheapest deal possible, but DT's like Short don't grow on trees. Finding another just as good might take a number of missses before we hit.

i agree completely. from spending an unhealthy amount of time doing the draft simulators has showed me one thing clearly. with this draft we could get long term replacements at 5-6 positions depending on how the board falls.

Only the Panthers would trade up to get a defensive player when they have an opportunity to get the best offensive player available

Who besides Olsen is a playmaker on this team?

Who has the speed to replace the WR we lost?.

The only WR we had, who had to be respected over the top? ..and what does it say that  the receiver was Ted Ginn

im telling you, if they blow this, and go defense, Rivera and Gettleman need to be gone and if Newton had a brain in his head, he would ask for a trade  before the Panthers fully turn him into David Carr  The 2nd.

as far as renting KK, we can do a rent of a KK like player in 2018.  The world won't end over KK Short.
