Cam Newton Relevance: Egregious Hits To Head = Automatic Ejection

We're probably top 3 in most disrespected teams in the NFL as far as refs are concerned. Hopefully this will help Cam a little. They flat out allowed open season for headhunting in 2016.

That rule if it was applied last year would have done nothing for Cam.  Refs didn't view those as flag worthy....so they wouldn't be ejection worthy

Cam Newton has been beaten, and battered throughout most of the 2016 season. Without a healthy o-line, Cam Newton appeared to have gotten hit the most last year throughout his whole career. The first Bronco game comes to mind when this subject comes up. The NFL, and the refs, appeared to not give any fugs about Cam whatsoever.

Now, egregious hitting to the head is an automatic ejection from the game.

Although refs are likely to ignore such in the case of Cam, it still is a small step.

Thoughts?

I guess you forgot all about The Running Posture Gambit.

A rule change?

Will the refs even acknowledge the rule, just cause it's been changed?

I'm with the majority here. I'm very bitter on how the refs, and the NFL as a whole, handled the head hunting last season.

They won't start calling it just cause the rule has changed. The refs got to give a damn.

As far as I can tell, they don't.

it's well-documented that the refs have made some flagrant no-calls on cam, but you guys are crazy if you think cam's targeting didn't drive this rule change. the owners know he's an asset to the league and they'd all be worse off if he went down.

this will absolutely affect cam. this is a victory.
