NFL Rule: No More Leaping On Field Goals

Remember the days of seeing beasts fly up and jump over linemen during Field Goals and blocking them?

That's no more.

The NFL has decided to rid of that for good. Looks like the only way to block field goals now is to have your player come around the edge or jump up real high.

Butler's importance has risen a bit. However, it's not like we've ever benefited from the original rule anyways.

Well that more of less eliminates the need to put your best blockers next to the snapper they've been doing a lot the last few years to protect them.

I never understood why the interior linemen weren't instructed to simply stand up therefore creating contact when it was obvious a defender was trying to jump the line like the Seahawks did to us several years back

The refs have been unable to enforce the rules already in place on that move, so I'm fine with them eliminating it. The jumper is almost always offside, or pushing down on an o-lineman which is illegal.

Never understood why our players were never instructed to do this more often given the amount of times its happened against us...to late now.

I dont really get it.  I think it's pretty stupid considering blocks from the trenches don't happen often, the number of blocks coming from "hurdlers" has risen in the last few years.  I think it increases your chances of getting a block to have that option.

Then again, we are usually on the losing end of this equation and never adopted the idea of using a super athlete to attempt the hurdle block on the regular.
