With this being a deep draft and Gettleman's history of success

With the depth of this draft, I have no problems going after more picks.  I am of leery of moving up to get guys when you end up having to sell the farm.  I know Gettleman loves to say he'd rather have quarter than two dimes, so I think that's going to be a part of this draft.

Then again, if we can get two impact players, a couple of contributors, can we call this a failure?  Only time will tell.  According to the draftniks like Mayock (who'se up for the Redskins job) say you can get a 2nd round pass rusher in prior years drafts in the 4th.  Seems to say to me that moving up may not have as much value as we think.

Butler had two blocked FGs on limited snaps, got to the QB, and all whIle mostly out with an ankle. Too early to come to any conclusions of course like you said, but if Short walks that Butler pick will look Ms. Cleo-esque.
Shaq did a lot for the team last year and is about to enter his 3rd season, which is where many evaluators say you'll see the type of pro that you have.
I'm supremely confident in our 1st Rd pick. 2nd rounders i will be 50/50 on

Both of these guys where second rd picks. We could have got other picks in the first rd and still got them in the second. I don't know Gettlemans method of picking but it's not that great. I'm not saying he is the worse but everyone says he is so great at picking players but he really isn't

What confuses me is most of you expect your GM to hit on every pick. Someone earlier said name a 1st round pick Gettleman has signed long term. Well do the same with Bellicheck lol. You guys act like we are way behind other teams draftwise. I never said Gettleman hit on every pick what I was trying to get across is that he has consistently picked players who have contributed instantly and for the majority of their rookie contract.

Let me know when Gettleman signs a player he drafted to a long term contract once their rookie contract has expired. Then we can discuss how great he is at the draft.

Let's see.

Trying to get a long term deal done with KK, assigned the 5th year tag to both KB and Star, will likely sign Turner to a long term deal if there is money, and let's not mention an UDFA that will likely also sign a long term deal if there once again....enough money.

A couple of pretty key misses in Ealy and Funchess though. That trade up for Funchess hurt. Still too early to call him a flat out bust, but it's certainly looking that way.

Maybe i just have low standards, but i really think its far too early to call Funchess a bust. He balled out his rookie season. Then Benji came back and took off his shine a bit, plus a sophomore slump, and it makes him look worse than he is.

Give the man the rest of his contract to prove himself, especially since he is still really freaking young for a receiver, right?

If you think Funchess' rookie season is "balling out" for a 2nd round pick that we traded up to get, then yeah your standards are mighty low.

Just being honest here, but when you look back at that draft, factor in Devin's age, it wasn't all that bad of a move.

Take a look at the rest of the 2nd that year....it's not real pretty.

When have Patriots hardly had a first rd pick. They always pick at the end of Rd 1 and always trade out of it. So that really shows me we are pretty bad. They can hit on second rd picks better than our 1st Rd picks!!!

Out of 121 receptions he has 844 yards and 9 tds with only 12 games started mind you he isn't out there for many snaps his production when he plays is not bad at all I honestly think that Shula is having trouble involving him looking at a lot of film they have him run some of the most basic routes most of the time he gets separation about half the time but honestly with his quickness he'd be best off in the slot or converted back to TE and split out like they do olsen sometimes

Butler was the #31 pick while Shaq was the #25, so we're splitting hairs at that point on whether or not they're 2nd rounders (and worth the 1st round pick). Shaq and Butler would have most definitely been gone by the time we came to pick in the 2nd imo. 4 more DTs went after the team picked Butler in the first before the 2nd round pick came up, That's not to say other prospects would've have been available, but to imply these picks could have been gotten in the 2nd is proposing idea as fact.

I could see Shaq being at the spot that the team traded up to grab Funchess at, but now we're again looking at a situation that we don't know if it would've happened so to assume so is silly.
