J-Stew Contract Restructure Details

The breakdown of Jonathan Stewart’s new contract was released today, and the running back stands to make a nice chunk of guaranteed money, paired with even more if he hits certain performance metrics. Stewart was due to make $8.25m in 2017. That number has now dropped to $6.175m, but is 100% fully guaranteed, a change that I do not foresee many fans disagreeing with. This money will come in the form of a large $2.5m roster bonus that is paid tomorrow, March 28th, coupled with singing and workout bonuses.

In 2018, the base value of his contract is just $3.75m dollars, and technically none of it is 100% guaranteed other than his pro-rated signing bonus of $1.1m (a $550k hit in 2018) from the previous year. He will make a cool million bucks if he is on the roster the first day of the 2018 league year, and a $1.9m salary in 2018.

Stewart is  better than a lot of 22-year-old running backs and I think the best running back over 30 right now. The dude missed three games last year, which isn't the end of the world.

And I still say had he been drafted by a team where he was the guy and that had a real offensive line he'd have made a lot of probowls.

people would speak very differently about him. When he's on the field our offense just plays a lot different-- much more of an attitude.

I also believe he has a lot of years left.

Still a lot of damn guaranteed money for a 30 year old running back, at least this year.

Im pretty sure he had around 5.5MM in dead money. Meaning we only had to pay $750,000 more to keep one of the most underrated RB's on our roster versus cutting him. Good deal.
