Bucky talks Cam and our offensive evolution

When I look around the league at how teams have helped veteran quarterbacks transition from athletic playmakers to more traditional players, the Steelers' blueprint for Ben Roethlisberger's evolution stands out as a success story. After watching Big Ben post big numbers but absorb big hits for years in Bruce Arians' high-risk, high-reward offense, the team switched their offensive approach under Todd Haley. The former Kansas City Chiefs' head coach quickly implemented a quick-rhythm passing game designed to get the ball out of Roethlisberger's hands. In addition, the team incorporated more two-back sets with a true fullback in the backfield to block for the tailback and add another layer of protection in the passing game. With Haley in command over the past five years, Big Ben has been sacked at an average of 28.4 times per season after being pummeled to the tune of 47.3 sacks per season under Arians. The reduced pounding has undoubtedly extended Big Ben's career and helped him continue to perform at a high level in his mid-30s.

This.

This right here.

Jesus this.

Please, for the love of god, this.

If Shula won't do this then fire his ass pronto.

Please.

See this is what I don't understand about the Shula gripes, half would agree Cam's ankle was bothering him after the Vikes game, but in another thread complain about not enough bootlegs being called ???

I think the real problem is a mixture of all three(Dorsey, Cam, Shula) with majority being on Dorsey. Since Shula's in the skybox I'm assuming Dorsey is the guys who suppose to tell cam about missed receivers, coverages, mismatches, situational football, ect

I agree - lots of blame to go around.  But I'd add the fact the offensive line was in shambles for much of the season.  Misdirection, bootlegs, rollouts are probably more difficult to coordinate for the offensive line, and if that line is constantly changing from week to week, it probably cuts down on the playbook.  Clearly there is no time for the necessary reps with new guys showing up all the time.

Bucky is accurate, and it's not all Cam, but that's who this article was written about.  I'm sure that he could do another write up on Shula, and Ron's conservative style, but I doubt it would get the clicks.

IMO most of our offensive "issues" are all intertwined.  Cam doesn't hit the short passes at a rate that gets us into a rhythm, our WR's aren't quick enough to really be open on these throws, and our offensive line can't hold up to the passes that Cam is great at.

Get Cam healthy, focusing on his footwork and mechanics, get him a couple more weapons and protection, and much of this will go away.

It all starts with Shula

And the O-line. Our O-line is a big reason for Cam's confidence being killed last season. The capability of our O-line this year rests on Matt Kalil which is really shaky and not a good look. If Matt doesn't work out we could very well be doomed this season.
