Could the Carolina Panthers trade up (or down) for Christian McCaffrey?

Not in a deep draft at the positions we most need. Having three second rounders would be a huge development.

But thanks for playing.

I agree.  I would really hate to give up any of our picks in the first four rounds of this draft.  Having more could be beneficial.

A lot of people just seem convinced that at 8 we are guaranteed some elite prospect.

I think at 8 we might be getting into that third tier of players

1st tier: Garrett

2nd tier:  Adams, Allen, Fournette, Thomas

3rd tier: ?????

Not saying these guys are in the correct tiers but my point is that this third tier might be a little larger and more varied than some people think.  Also at this point the players might be graded fairly close and need might factor in more.

You might move from 8 to 12 and still draft the player you want.

I have this feeling that McCaffrey and some combination of Ross or OJ will be a part of our offense evolving as Ron and DG are referring to. We don't have any playmakers on offense except really Cam and Olsen. Another big play guy is needed; hell 2 more wouldn't hurt at all!!

A stiff-arm is more about leverage than it is about strength.

If both players were standing still?  Then, yeah, the stronger player wins.

Thing is, this is a game in motion.

I agree that the art of the stiff arm has a lot to do with leverage but it is the closest football act directly related the bench press. Yes if the defender is off balance then the runner has leverage but if the defender is balanced and poised to make the tackle, you have to have enough strength to press the defender away from you, stiff arm. Watch film on Steve Smith and J Stew.

I can't remember a single time, including Stewie and Smitty, where the defender they stiff-armed was NOT in motion along with them.

If a defender is "balanced and poised to make a tackle" then a guy like Smitty or, in the case of this thread, McCaffrey uses their great athleticism to make a cut and leave the defender in their dust.  A guy like Stewie is different... he wouldn't stiff arm a stationary, balanced defender... he would lower his shoulder and run over his ass.

Stiffarms? Ha! At your age all you know about are stiff knees.

I'd love to have him but not at 8 or even 12. If we trade back to 12 and get Howard and an extra pick we can use that to get back into the first if he slides into the 20s.

8 & 64 could get us 12 & 33. 33 & Tre Boston gets us into the mid 20's. Our first 3 picks: Howard at 8, McCaffrey at mid 20's, Obi melifonwu at 40! Bonus, grab a DE (kpassagnon??)at 98.

DG & Coaches value this draft a lot we could possibly get 3-4 starters out of this draft.

Sorry, #33 and Tre Boston could get us... #33.

There is no way in hell anyone is giving up several draft spots in the bottom of the 1st round for Tre Boston. We could probably get a late round conditional pick for him and that's about it.

Im saying that is harder to do that when you can only bench 225 10 times...

Rather than stiff arm, McCaffrey will juke the guy out of his socks.  He has this insane ability to stop on a dime and go sideways while running full speed.  He's not a power guy that's going to even try to overpower guys.  He'd rather make them miss and run by them.  But I will say, he does have decent core strength that shows up when he runs.  He's able to run through arm tackles and will get the extra few yards after contact and drive the ball into the endzone.
