Could the Carolina Panthers trade up (or down) for Christian McCaffrey?

The more I think about it, the more likely I am starting to think the Panthers may be trading up , or even trading down, to grab McCaffrey.

McCaffrey would fit a number of needs on the team. This goes against him being a "situational player" as some have put it. If he is a 3rd down back, a receiver, a punt and kick returner.... isn't he on the field in more situations than most?

Throw in the fact that the Panthers just hired his running backs coach at Stanford to replace RIcky Proehl. Who else in the NFL would know exactly what McCaffrey's strengths and weakenesses of and how to use him properly?

Not to mention the reports of how much time and resources the Panthers had on hand at Stanford pro day. That was far more than just a Solomon Thomas show.

The kid is just a pure football player with a pedigree. Do want.

The biggest thing that concerns me abot McCaffrey is his lack of strength. I think he about 10 reps of 225 lbs, that doesnt lead to a lot of breaking tackles or stiff arms to get extra yardage...

But that's why we have Stewart. McCaffrey Is just a multi tool that we can utilize in the passing game. It's a bonus, he has all season to bulk up and gain strength with his awesome cast of NFL trainers that'll make sure that 10 rep bench will turn into a 20 rep bench by the end of the season.

I have no clue what we ultimately do but I agree he checks off a number of boxes. He would be our version of Wes Welker who can run the ball as well. He instantly fill a bunch of needs. I still like Howard at 8 but if he isn't there McCaffrey would instantly improve the offense.

I like McCaffrey I just don't want them to trade down. I think we could get Howard and then trade back into first rd to get McCaffrey.

    • I don't think the Jags are picking ahead of us anyways, at least not if Lawrence plays the rest of the year (or most of it). Here are the very winnable games left for the rest of the teams ahead of us in the draft right now... Jags (2 wins) - Titans x2, Raiders, Jets, Colts Giants (2 wins) - Cowboys, Saints, Colts Titans (2 wins) - Jags x2, Colts Browns (2 wins) - Saints, (Dolphins if they sit Tua as it's 2nd to last game) Raiders (2 wins) - Jags, Saints Patriots (3 wins) - Colts, Rams (it's home this week, 1pm game, Rams on short week) Saints (3 wins) - Browns, Giants, Raiders Jets (3 wins) - Colts, Jags, (also Dolphins last week if no Tua) The Patriots are the only team there that doesn't play another one of these teams, and the Browns and Jets are the only others that don't play at least 2 of them. We're not beating the Chiefs or Eagles.  We're not winning road games against the Cardinals or Falcons with them fighting for playoff positioning (assuming the Cardinals aren't locked into their place by week 17).  I also, personally don't think we're beating the Bucs in either game. Which just leaves the Cowboys, we lose that game and we're picking Top 3 or 4 at worst, still a legit shot at #1 because as of right now, the Jags are the only 2 loss team that we'd lose the SOS tiebreaker to. Even if we beat the Cowboys, with how many times all those teams play each other, or have other winnable games, I think we still end up 4-6. Yea, if we end up beating the Bucs or have another surprise upset too, it will end up dropping us further back to the 10-12 range
    • yeah Frazier was my dude. strong nasty, technical C. lots of playing time. but got a RB for a few games this year and 3 mnore years after. oh and signed a RB long term this year too. brooks got to be damn good for that to be worth it now. and while i think he can be a bellcow, it make investing in all the RBs vs other area an issue. we have one of the better lines atm. if it was frazier at C, my goodness we would be set for a long while. this year has a 2 OC im looking at Jake Majors , and Bryce Foster (massive, nasty streak, really want)
