Gettleman: Panthers WILL pick up KB's 5th year option

This doesn't surprise me.

$8M isn't a MAJOR investment these days for a football team.  It would put him above Robert Woods, but less than Kenny Britt (and Britt is #20 in the top 20).

I have not been overly impressed with KB as yet in his young career, performance or work ethic.  But he did flash as a rookie, so the extra year at $8M is worth the minimal risk.

+Bill has talk set with GMan this morning.

+Tweets a question he's going to ask him about the May deadline

+Asks him the question

+Confirms team's going to pick up the option

+Huddle creates the narrative that Voth is a dick for thinking out loud

+Just a normal day around here

Honestly this was a little low on the part of Voth, and considering how long he's been covering the team he should know better.

The reason Gettleman was so urgent to clear it up was the obvious element with blindsiding the player, Benjamin in this case, and creating an instance of a possible rift where there didn't need to be one. Just bad journalism.

Bill had a talk with GMan today where he posed the question. It wasn't like GMan took to the interwebs to debunk all this "crazy speculation".

It wasn't a complete impossibility obviously.

But a bit of common sense would indicate it was quite remote. We aren't talking about a rookie Panthers beat writer here.

No Kelvin would mean our #1 and 2 WR's would become Funchess and Bersin at least until the draft. Does anyone remotely affiliated with this team think that was likely to happen? Let's be real here.

I don't disagree about it being a pretty remote possibility. I just don't understand why so many people always want to crucify these dudes no matter what they do (except Newton - I get that). It was a pretty simple, innocent Tweet about a question he was going to ask. I guess he should have just Tweeted out that the team is going to pick up the option rather than let us all know he's going to talk to GMan about it. Lord knows Panthers fans can't handle any sort of constructive conversation about our players without 1/2 of the people getting pissed off.

Did anyone remotely think Josh Norman would have his tag rescinded?

All the tweet did was point out the fact that the decision was looming.

Voth is a good smart dude, but these are unfortunately the tactics journalists use on twitter these days to drum up interest. It works sometimes, and other times it backfires.

Franchise tag, and 5th year option are just a wee bit different. Not to mention I don't think Benjamin is using one of his buds that has like no experience as his representing agent. Also, considering our WR depth chart, Benjamin has some leverage as well.

We've been over this a few times.....posts on Twitter do not equate to clicks. Unless he writes an article that he's pushing through Twitter, there is no monetary gain to having a conversation with your audience. I, for one, had no idea that May was the deadline. So I'm happy this conversation happened today. I also can process it and move on - we should all be able to do that.
