Saints talking to Manziel

My feelings about Manziel have less to do with the fact that he's a jackass and a moron - and he legitimately is both - and more to do with the fact that he's not a very good football player.

His spoiled brat persona certainly had a lot to do with his failing in the NFL, but it wasn't the sole reason.

Despite the hype, he's just not that good.

He was really, REALLY good in college but the problem with translating him to the NFL was the fact that most of his highlights came on scramble drills. The Golden Calf of Bristol was much the same way in the NFL. No NFL OC is going to want a guy who needs everything to go wrong on a play for him to truly shine. "Busted play on three" is a play call you'll never hear in an NFL huddle. LOL!

The system he played in back then was pretty friendly to his skill set, too.

My read on Manziel has pretty much always been that he was the kind of quarterback who could look great in college but would never accomplish anything in the pros.

So far that's holding true.

Don't disagree. No one ever tried to truly develop him as a QB who could stick with a game plan. You can get away with that at the college level, but no one is gifted enough to pull it off consistently at a high level in the NFL. Michael Vick probably came closest to doing that. And as gifted as Manziel is as an athlete, he's nowhere close to Vick's level.

Also doesn't help when the guy you're trying to develop thinks he's already the best there is and he doesn't need any coaching.

Manziel in the huge party town that is New Orleans? I can't foresee anything going wrong there...

Hell, he and Sean Payton would probably be snorting oxy off of hookers' asses in the locker room during halftimes.

Hell yeah!

    • How good would the Colts have been if they traded for Bryce.  Richardson is wasting a good line and quality receivers.
    • And this was with Derrick Brown having an all-time great season at DT also. Maybe this scheme was done right in Denver, but it hasn't been done right here at all in 2 years, with or without personnel. I'm willing to cut Canales some slack bc he was right in benching Bryce and has helped him develop into what looks like a guy who can be here long-term, and Dan Morgan has vouched for him too, but it's so hard to think about bringing him back after the all-time disaster this year was. Continuity be damned. Hope they are right though. This could be a playoff team with the 2nd Half of the year offense and an even average defense.
    • Re: Cam As you could probably guess, his personality didn't initially mesh well with the no-nonsense special forces guys, but they respected his performance in the challenges and he's been a good "teammate" to some of the others on the show. FYI: Also appearing this season is Golden Tate, who per his own words seems to be kind of lost in his post football life.
