And that would make him pretty stupid.

No it wouldn't.

fournette's productivity would be greatly hampered by running out of the shotgun and Cam would be hampered running the offense from under center.

Fournette is a bad fit for our scheme...the talk g heads see big back and pencil him in here.  Not to mention the guy has an injury history and his running style is to try and run over people...not a good combination for a long career in the NFL.

The Jets are taking Mitchell Trubisky

It's odd seeing no QBs in the top 10 in Kiper's mock.

What's the latest the first QB of the draft has ever been picked?  Have there been other (recent) drafts with no QBs in top 10?   If this is the first such draft in a long time it really sucks for us as it means more of the players we're interested in fly off the board before #8.

I'm also curious, does news of Cam's shoulder surgery change who you'd like us to draft at #8.  I was assuming we might do DE or S at #8 and then go quite heavy on offensive picks, though I think my favorite pick at #8 still might be OJ Howard.

But with news of Cam's injury, that does suggest we'd be quite wise to beef up our power run game... so I'm now thinking a RB is really a priority.   I don't really know enough about Fournette to gauge whether he might be able to adapt from Shotgun / center.  But I think getting a premier RB who can make an impact right away just jumped up the priority list as we may need to limit Cam's throws early in the season.

I honestly believe that Gman would take DE Derek Barnett over Fournette

Addressing a need yes.  Addressing an aging position yes. Adding depth to a good position yes.  Right choice I firmly think not.  If Gettleman did that I couldn't back him the way I do now anymore.

Gettleman takes his big board numbers them from best player to last and checks off whos gone and circles whos available based on Best Player Available.  Addressing a position of need hasn't really been his top method.  I would say I could see him taking Thomas or Allen or Fournette rather than Barnett.  Which Thomas I may have an argument for, but very little, but can't argue taking Allen or Barnett over Fournette.  This draft is deep with pass rushers and these 3 guys are interior DL.  Barnett although a great player and could definitely help, I don't even consider him at #8 to us.  We have got to get someone will make an immediately impact and preferably a player to directly take some pressure off Cam.  Hell at this point after free agency I feel good about our Defense.  Get Cam some more weapons.  Fournette, Williams, Howard, etc.

Before you simply conclude that Fournette  can't operate out of the shotgun based on stats alone, go and look at some of his runs out of the gun and notice that there's usually 2-3 defenders in the backfield by the time he gets the ball.

How is this different than our offensive line right now? We're banking on one of the worst performing LTs in football to somehow become rock solid and we have a huge question mark on the right side at the moment. Until our line is much improved, I think our pick would be better spent elsewhere or else it's a very real possibility we waste a top 10 pick because we don't have the talent on our line.

I'd honestly be worried if we pick Fournette. Fournette isn't good from the shotgun, and he'd dead last compared to all RBs coming out in that category.

Cam only played 9.2% of snaps from under center. Tell me right now why that would be the case, and how he'd 'suddenly' be great from under center.

I'd rather get McCaffery than Fournette based on fit. McCaffery is the best from the shotgun from this class, and would compliment Cam well. I'd argue we can still wait a year to get a true powerback since next year's RB class is also very deep.

I don't want a RB or TE in the first, considering value and fits. TEs are dirt cheap on the FA market, and RBs are also losing vakue.

A DE though would be best. I'll make a thread on this soon, but considering most elite DEs are from picks 20 and above, valuewise DE is most likely the pick.

McCaffery over Fournette?? For this offense??

Man draft season is to long....

A elite pass rusher isn't instant impact??

News to me..
