One thing is clear, the brass is giving Shula the benefit of the doubt.

If the only reason Shula can't evolve his offense as an OC is we didn't have a second TE, then that's says far more about his abilities than anything. What if we had gotten a second TE and he had gotten hurt? Would we have just thrown away our entire season because the second TE got injured and Shula couldn't evolve? I'm sorry, but Shula couldn't evolve his offense because we didn't pick up a second TE is a piss poor excuse for his failure as an OC. That's his freaking job.

You took what i said, and ran way to far.  It's alright, I'll respond like this, the point i was making, is Shula was doing his job, and attempting to stay ahead of the rest of league.

Poot execution by players, and then a devestated oline, made whatever we attempted, a moot point.

Thanks for playing, and bringing your misplaced anger.

For the brain dead in here, once more, Shula uses his #2 TE to block and sees way less snaps than our #1 TE (how I know we aren't going to draft OJ Howard).

Shula remains the biggest hindrance to our offense, and our OL went through hell last year with injuries. Him asking for help is NOT a good thing. It just confirms that he can't handle his duties because he lacks creativity and the ability to adjust.

No matter how bad some of you guys want to protect Shula, Cam has alluded to blaming him and expressing his displeasure towards how slow our offense moves. If any of you have actually followed Shula's career, you'd know that's all him.

The Alabama, Tampa and Carolina offense all look the same.

I'm not protecting anyone.

Shula wasn't asking for another starting quality TE just to block.  If you believe that, then you need to stop posting, seriously.

The reason Shula gets crucified is because of the play calling he does no matter what. He doesn't make half time adjustments which creates bad 2nd half play even in our 15-1 season he was terrible at it and has been his whole career.

He also doesn't change things game to game just ask the broncos who said our offense didn't do anything different than what they saw all season and they were ready for it.

Not to mention his propensity to call long developing plays in situations that you know the other team is blitzing and you need to get the ball out quickly also running slow ass big WRs in go routes trying to get them deep.

Last year he did try slants with our big WR and it worked but he kept regressing back to his old play calls.

Shula plays also mostly require perfect execution to be successful with every part being perfect. Well in the NFL that's rarely possible and unless your lucky that's not a path to sustained success because you can't plan injuries or mental mistakes. Most good OC can change things if they lose someone or know a players doing poorly in a game. Shula sticks to the plan no matter what

This is why we rag on Shula so much and hate him so fervently. It's not ignorance but years of watching him do the same things throughout his entire career.

I was going to reply to the post you responded to. No need to now. You just stole (lol) all of my points!

I remember Shula when he was the OC in Tampa under Dungy. He had another mediocre offense. He had a great Tampa D that made it all the way the 1999 NFC title game. They lost to the Rams/ 'Greatest show on Turf" 11-6. The Buc defense held those guys to 5 points thru 3 quarters. They didn't give up a TD against one of the most potent offenses in history until the 5:00 mark in the 4th quarter on a great catch by out own Ricky Prohl.

What I remember about that game, and the season as a whole, was the lackluster offense. The Bucs just couldn't score a lot of points, went cold in the 2nd half, and played way too many close games. Sound familiar?

To his credit, Shula has improved some. But, he still is rather predictable at times. Calls plays that don't cater to the strength of his personnel; and struggles to build on 1st half momentum. That said, since he's hanging around for another year I hope he gets the pieces he needs to improve the offense. I'd like to see him succeed.

Oh, then you're just delusional. Shula has never evolved... EVER. That's why he got canned at Tampa. The Bucs asked for more but he remained the same OC. I mean holy poo. When are you morons going to get it?

An interim OC got a head coaching gig before Shula... and we went 15-1 the year before. Shanahan (a notorious egotistical douche like Chud) scored a gig too. Shula? Not one call.

Guys, everybody else can see it. Why can't you? Shula isn't going to change. It's why it took him forever to get another shot.

I'm with you on the Shula hate train but if the rumor is true he really is attempting to change. I fully believe he got called to the principal's office and this is the hill he's chosen to die on.

Pure blocking TEs are a dime a dozen. If that's all he wanted we'd have one already. Coble was the best one last year and went undrafted.

I'm far from Shula's biggest fan, but I think sometimes gets a little too much of  the blame. I think he's had two OC jobs in the NFL (Tampa and Carolina). Both times he 's worked under defensive minded head coaches (Dungy and Rivera) who favor a strong running game over an explosive passing attack. I've often wondered if his play calling is a reflection of the coach's personality/philosophy.

Do you think Shula would open things up offensively if given more playmakers and the freedom/encouragement to do so?

Well, I wish they would stop giving Shula the benefit of the doubt. He is terrible and always has been. Given his track record, he should've never been hired by this team. The only reason he keeps getting chance after chance is because of his last name. The Panthers claim they want to "evolve", but keep holding on to an incompetent OC. It's beyond ridiculous.

I didn't take what you said an run way to far with it. You said Shula's hands were tied because we didn't get a second tight end, and his offense couldn't evolve.

And it's not anger, it's frustration. Our O-line couldn't block for longer than 2.5 seconds last year, but we still ran the same long developing plays over and over. We barely use our RBs in our passing game, which takes away a whole facet to the offense from our backs. Defenses can play the run because they know we're not going to pass to our RBs. With one of the highest scoring offenses in the NFL, he wasn't out interviewing for HC gigs because other teams knew it was Cam making it happen, not Shula. For fugs sake, he was using our franchise QB as a RB. Cam has taken over 300 more hits than any other QB during the span of his career. You don't do that to your franchise QB on purpose. If Cam hadn't been forced and able to carry the offense for so long, Shula would be gone.

Shula is a scapegoat, only on here can you have a discussion about how piss poor our online and Wr core perform, then turn around and blame it completely on the oc. For the 100th time, it was due to execution and not having the players to execute the scheme, but let's roll the Shula blame train out

You make adjustments based on what your given. If you try the same things with different personell and not scheming based on your team's strengths and weaknesses then your a bad OC period. You can flaunt injuries all you want but he's been like this his entire career.

OC's design plays.  Player execute them.  If you rewatch the games, especially if you have access to the all 22, you could see where Cam didn't check down as much as he should.  Yes there were some plays that were longer developing, etc.. but on a lot of plays, the short completions were ignored by Cam.   Even after all that talk in preseason of taking what the defense gave, he either didn't do it, or didn't have time to do it.

As far as the read option you may have a point.  However, Cam only seems to get hurt in the pocket and when he's not paying attention (or showboating).  Other than that he usually doesn't take big hits Outside of the goal line.  I don't think we will ever see no aspect of the read option, due to the fact that Cam is such a weapon at it.
