In Charlotte proper, sugar creek and wooden robot are my favorites. I stay as far away as possible from old meck and sycamore.

I don't get the OMB hype. I've tried going there a few times, but it's hard to stay long when sugar creek is next door.  Maybe people like the food at OMB?

Old Meck has the best space of all the breweries, but the beer is atrocious. I think it's a favorite of people who don't know beer and just come to hang out.

When I visited Charlotte back around Thanksgiving, I tried Heist, Birdsong, and NoDa.  Enjoyed them all.  NoDa had a solid sour.  The last visit before that, went to OMB which blew me away how big of a set up they have (And this is coming from someone who lives in SD and formerly CO)

NC in general though, nothing beats Highland IMO.
