Why I Have Fallen Out of Love with Fournette at 8...

McCaffery will be gone at 11 anyway, so trading back in for him is out.

It all depends on the style of offense we plan on running.  The worst thing in the world is to have a couple of 235 lb running backs dancing in the backfield.

Fournette won't be there at 8

That's my main concern. I don't think he has much of a chance getting past the Jags. They have a young QB who has struggled but they're not ready to give up on him yet. They'll see Fournette as a great way to take the pressure off of him.

The Jags make the most sense, they just bought a defense, now time to draft someone to take the target off their QB's back

If Fornette, Adams and Hooker are gone, it will mean that many QB's did not come off the board and maybe mean people will be wanting to move back up and let us drop down a few spots.  Otherwise, at 8 we have to reach a bit on Howard or a WR.  Other guys would be an even bigger reach

He could easily be there. Adams and Fournette could both easily be there:

1. CLE - Would be crazy to pass on Garrett

2. SF - Could easily go QB and has Hyde

3. Chicago - Signed Demps at SS and has Howard at RB

4. Jax - Signed Church at SS and are looking at Murray at RB

5. Titans - Signed Cyprien at SS and have Murray/Henry at RB

6. Jets - Have so many needs including just about everything and most importantly QB.

7. Chargers - Re-signed Addae at SS and have Gordon at RB

If Jax signs Murray, then Fournette could easily get by SF and NYJ. Adams could as well. Lots of SS signed in FA.

Jags and Jets make the most sense for Fournette. Jags if they go BPA and Jets if they want to fill the stands. As for safety, I think either Hooker or Adams will be there at #7. I could see the Saints trade up to take Hooker or Adams at #7 to spite us.

I respect you as a poster, but if I have to hear about McCaffrey being a better value back over Leonard Fournette again, I'm gonna go nuts (Jeremy wrote a shitty article today saying the same stupid s h i t).  Leonard Fournette is the best RB prospect in years.  If he falls to 8, we need to take him, if not him Adams.  That's the only two at that point.

I would take McCaffrey in bottom of the 1st round but not at 8, either its going to be Fournette or Howard and to pairing  him with either one will be successful due to his versatile skill set he will be able to compliment either one on the field

Best RB prospect in years?  Nah.

Very good RB and definately the best pure rusher of this draft.

They do, but as I mentioned Jags did meet with Latavius Murray. If they are thinking DL with Allen or hoping Garrett falls, they might be fine with Murray as a FA plus Allen instead of Fournette because there are no comparable FA DL.

Also, to be honest, I think it would be awesome for us to see the Saints blow picks 11 and 32 just to jump us. Instead of 2 solid players they'd get 1. Love it.

I think DG is going to be ready to pick among a handful of guys.

They'd probably package their 2nd, but I'd love it it they gave up #32. My hope is Fournette falls to us via Jags taking Allen and grabbing Murray and the Jets landing Lattimore. My dream would be either Adams or Hooker and Fournette available at #8.

It's not effective as a primary attack anymore.

Run a damn pro style offense. Evolve that.

Exactly... I for 1 hate the read option, it was cool on occasion when defenses weren't ready for it, but now it's played out and we don't fool anybody haha look how well Stewart runs when we do a run play... where he doesn't have a DE in his face as soon as cam finally let's go of the ball... I'm hoping we are done with it, I miss our run game

I can accept that, but my question is what if we don't?

Fair question.  I think trading back is pretty stupid.  But, whatever.

I agree. I would much prefer to bundle a few picks and move up into the later 1st round than move back. That would not only be taking quality over quantity, but would also fit G-man's style more. I do agree with Op that fournette may not be the BPA (for us) at 8. I personally think we grab the best DE at 8 (Solomon, Allen, Barnett). Having them locked in on a cheap contract for 5 years is too good a value to pass on. Dave is always thinking $$$.

Edit: FWIW, I concede that Fournette is, by far, the best RB in the draft. I just think that there will be better players at 8.

I still say pick 8 will be a defensive player, as much as I'd be happy with Howard, or Fournette.

This is what I believe as well. I feel like Howard and Fournette would be amazing fits for this team but with the way Gettleman and Rivera value defense and with no true young playmaker at the DE position I can totally see that as the pick.

If we are looking to evolve, to diversify our offense and add new wrinkles and layers to it, is Fournette at 8 the right move?  I'm starting to think the answer is no.

If you listened closely to what Ron was talking about in his "evolve" talk, you could tell quite clearly that he left off the initial "d".

Dude ain't lookin' to "evolve" jack poo.

If his idea of "evolving" turns out to just be running the same attack with different players, I'm gonna be really disappointed (and pissed off).

We are drafting defensive end. We wouldn't let Ealy go solely based on picking up 37 year old Peppers. Thus, everything you said is pointless.
