Why I Have Fallen Out of Love with Fournette at 8...

First off the Panthers aren't planning on trading back, the Ealy move proves that we are planning to move up. (both 2's for a 1st)

as far as Fournette versus other Running Backs, there is no one I'd rather have end of discussion.

as far as Fournette versus the rest lf the top 15 players, there are about 4-5 I wouldnt be mad at us picking up even tho I want Fournette, heck I've stated a few times on here that I'm not a fan at getting Adams at 8 because I think you can get quality play out of mid-tier FA SS's, but like I said when we drafted Kalil and Luke, any time you draft the best player at a position in the draft, it's a good pick.

I'd agree.

Adams or Howard at #8 then trading up and taking McCaffrey later in Round 1 is a scenario I could easily see (and would be on board with).

An effective running game, complete with effective blocking, while sprinkling in some play-action passes to legitimate targets across the offensive skill positions would indeed be evolution from our predictable, mired in mud, offense of 2016.

I feel that some will be surprised when Fournette turns out to be a lot more multidimensional than some believe here.

"This guy can run inside, he can run outside, he runs with power, he can catch the ball and make plays after the catch," Casserly said.

He's not talking about Cook or McCaffrey, he's talking about Fournette.

Supposedly 2 years ago we were done with it... but use it now more then ever lol "evolve " probably means bringing another TE to help block for it

It's not effective as a primary attack anymore.

Run a damn pro style offense. Evolve that.

Like I said in the other thread, I'm down with taking Howard at 8 and then trading back up for McCaffrey or Cook later on in the first. Preferably cook because I see McCaffrey stock rising more than falling. In a draft deep with defensive players, Panthers should be looking to snag the best offensive talent they can at the top and use the later picks on depth. Those are two players that go a long way in helping the offense evolve not just one, and they are arguably the best at there positions. Those 2nd round picks will come in handy.

Christian McCaffery is a day two/three prospect -- at 35-40 lbs less he ran .02 seconds faster than Fournette. So what if he's quick/shifty or his ''deceptive speed''. He is not an NFL running back, or day one prospect. <<< I REPEAT HE IS NOT A DAY ONE PROSPECT.

He also does not fit what we do here, we are a power running team, aka between the tackles. That's not gonna be his strong suit at the next level. He needs to go to a pass heavy team like - NE / DET / NO where a team can maximize his skill set as a ''space player'' at the NFL level.

Fournette does not just do one thing well for the pundits, and posters trying to pigeon hole him, however the thing he does best (between the tackles) running suits us perfectly, especially as we wean off the option running game.

I think McCaffery is talented but to people acting like he's gonna be a perennial all pro, you need to chill. He'll be a great role player on the right team, in the right offense that moves him around. But he's not a franchise piece.

One thing you have to factor in here: Gettleman doesn't like trading back. If he likes a player, he'll take him right where we are.

Thoughts on OJ Howard?

I've read articles saying Howard could be an unparalleled talent and i know the measurables and resume are there, so if we took him, I wouldn't be upset.  I'd have some questions though...  I think Olsen has plenty left in the tank, and elite level TEs can usually play at a high level through their late 30s.  So, although i think we could really cause some problems for opponents with 2 TE sets with Olsen and Howard, I question our staff's ability to effectively use both guys in such a manner.

As to your scenario of taking Howard at 8 and McCaffrey in the late first after trading back up, that would be AMAZING.
