Panthers organization optimistic about Michael Oher

I'm honestly not worried that much about his concussion, from a safety standpoint. All eyes and focus are on head injuries. It's no secret how long he's been in the protocol. 

If he's cleared to come back, I trust the doctors making that decision. If not, then it was for the best. Whatever determination is made will be in the best interest of Oher. Nowadays "the team" takes a back seat to safety, rightfully so.

Can someone clear this up for me?  Did he fail 6 months ago and hasn't taken a test to see if he has cleared or is he taking a test every week and continues to fail?

This is what I kept thinking as people were freaking out.  Why has he not cleared the protocol?

Has he been failing his tests all this time, or has he not taken the test in a while, or has he cleared the medical part, but still in because of an administrative detail?  Without knowing the facts, we can't get too worked up over it. 

But this is also something you would expect the team to say publicly, even if they have a completely different opinion privately.  So, who knows.  If he suits up again, I will take it that there was some non-health related reason he was in the protocol so long.  If not, it's worst case scenario for him.

Uhh I have no idea why. Seems like a recipe for failure. Assume he's done and take it as a bonus if he can play.

Didn't Sidney Crosby sit out for a year because of concussion? He came back to play. If/when he clears and wants to play then I don't see it as a big deal.

 

Edit: my bad, about 18 months and came back and played well. From Wikipedia:

However, after playing eight games in the 2011–12 season, Crosby's concussion-like symptoms returned in December 2011, and he did not return until mid-March 2012. If he does clear the protocol he is an immediate upgrade over Remmers at RT. Hopefully he can remain healthy. If not, I think big Daryl is ready to take the next step.

They have to know something we don't know (obviously).  If he thinks he can play, and team agrees, well, that's what training camp is for.
