Middle-Earth: Shadow of War

This is a thing: new game based upon the success of Shadows of Mordor.

So here's a brief run down:

Did you play and enjoy Shadows of Mordor?  I bought it last year, game of the year for like $15 or something.  Just now getting around to playing it (darn you Destiny!), and I'm really enjoying the way the game plays.  Combat is super fun, approaching encounters differently is really fun, and the Nemesis system is a blast.  Ratbag is hilarious comic relief!

So Shadow of War is about you and your wraith friend taking the fight to the armies of Mordor.  In the trailer, you can see how your orc buddies can help save your bacon.  And you can ride a drake...Closest I get to my own how to train your dragon moment!

Looks great!  I'll be picking this up soon.  Since Destiny 2 is going to be a fresh start, I'm going to spending a lot more of my time in other games (smart me, duh!), and these games are scratching a lot of fun itches.

Thoughts?

LOL D-Dave I feel the same man, I've had Shadow of Mordor since way back when and guess what has been played and what hasn't? That's right Destiny. I stopped playing though, I'm going to be really busy with school until July 11 and I'm forcing myself to take a break from video games.

This looks fuging awesome, I can't wait. I'm glad they upped the RPG element and expanded the army system, because they combat was realllly easy in the first.

The first game was a lot of fun. This looks even better. Are you a bad guy trying to compete with Sauron?

Now I'm not totally sure what the story is, but it looks like you're going to war against Sauron.  Maybe not to become the next darklord, but to fight him, even if just to weaken him.

Talion is a ranger, through and through so he'll want to protect the free people of middle earth.  It shows Celembior forging a new ring, not THE RING, so that probably comes into play as you progress and become a leader.  I really want to see how your relationships work.

Then there's this:

Color me excited!

I've been on LOTRO since beta. I'm a bit of a Tolkien freak. But most of the console ME games are too twitchy and not enough LOTR for me.

one of the first computer games I bought was called Shadow of Mordor, it was a text based game about being Sam and Frodo getting past Shelob and destroying  the ring. 1988 fun times

The Hobbit was the first novel I ever read and was hooked. Then those old Bakshe (?) movies were amazing when I was a kid. Have loved it all my whole life...until the Hobbit movies. Sigh. I was disappointed. But I've always loved the games and the whole fantasy genre that Tolkien created.

Man, I played the crap out of LOTRO until I got about halfway through Rohan.  I started a month before Moria came out.  I love that game, I just don't have the time to really sit down for a while and figure out what I missed.  I got busy, and I had to take it off my computer for space purposes and it never got reinstalled when I upgraded the HDD.

I'm just messing around in Shadows of Mordor, and it has a lot of wonderful storytelling, character interactions, and I've found the controls not to be too bad.  I enjoyed console Diablo, and it plays somewhat similarly.

While I found the new Hobbit movies to be disappointing initially, I recently re-watched them with my son.  Aside from the weird choices to try to make it more family friendly (lack of blood in many cases), the script actually conveys a poo ton of the lore from the history of Middle Earth.  Initially, I disliked them, but after some further viewing, I do enjoy them, though not as wholeheartedly as I did the LOTR films.

I loved the games story. Thought it fit in nicely at the end with lore from the books.

As for the Hobbit movies, I'm no purist but I felt they added too much and...cardinal sin...they screwed up Smaug.

Man, I have fallen so hard in love with Shadows of Mordor!  Just taking a few moments to totally mess with captains and their fears.  I picked up the Dominate a Caaragor and exploding arrows....  Oh holy poo, I have TOO MUCH FUN with this game.

I had a captain who was scared of Caaragor's, but his dudes were huddled around a fire.  Exploding arrow, Freed a Caaragor, jumped down on it, and decimated that Captain... Holy mackerel!  I missed this the first time I played!

Yeah makes me think this next iteration will be spectacular.
