How to fix it (Quarterback)

Mr. Scot

Maybe Fox should get more involved in the offensive play calling. Hell, if he's going to be on the hot seat, then he might as well do it his way to try to get off of it. Personally, I don't think that Davidson is helping his cause at all right now.

I think we gave a little to much credit to Davidson last year (and I said this then). He had two superstar RB's (two 1st rounders), two very good T's (both 1st rounders) and an all-pro WR. He did a great job with our Oline but the passing game took a step back. Now that D's are taking away the running game away our O looks horrid.

I don't agree with the premise that he's lost his confidence. If he has, he wouldn't have made some of the throws he's made the past two weeks. Nor would the team have him passing so much and in some of the situations he has.
That's just it. Save for the INT in the first half, it looked to me that Jake had settled down and was decisive on the field.

Complete lack of confidence in oneself, to me, results in looking like David Carr when he was with us; looking scared, can never throw a deep ball out of fear, running backwards under pressure instead of stepping forward, and checkdown passes galore. Am I seeing that from Jake on a consistent basis? To me, not enough to give a definitive answer. Will we see nothing but bad performances if we're unable to fix the problems with our offense? Very possible.

I guess I'm trying to say "Before fixing the quarterback, fix everything else around him. If he's still broken after that, replace the quarterback." Otherwise, you're dooming Moore/Feeley to fail without the tools they need around them to succeed.

(In other words, it's like asking someone to hammer a nail with a hot dog)

(Or if you want a non-stupid analogy, think about how highly drafted quarterbacks usually end up in teams where there's barely anyone on the roster to aid that QB in succeeding)

I don't think it's a complete lack.

It's just when the moment comes to throw that pass, something in his brain might make him hesitate just a half second longer than before, or rush the pass a little early.

Again, the turnovers aren't what I'm going by here. It's the general level of play. Just doesn't look the same to me as it did last season.

I think that Cardinal game might just have shaken him pretty deeply, and maybe there's a little section of his brain that still flashes on those moments when he's out on the field this season.

That 1/2 sec is killing us.

I'm not disagreeing that the Cardinals game is not having an effect on Jake in some way. It's lke with Palmer and now Tom Brady with their injuries. There's that hesistation in stepping into the pocket out of this subconcious fear of getting hurt again. The hope is that the team around them can play at a high level to get the QB to feel more confident again.

Is the problem with Jake more about the mental aspect or the simple fact that he's getting older and his skill set is diminishing? Don't know. Are we currently aiding in building his confidence by having a general level of play around him that is mostly worse than it was last season? Not really.

no no no, he needs a complete section for just the WR's. I have never seen a team thru three games that has not had a freakin wide receiver wide open...worst seperation ability in the whole league (I know Smith is great, but he's double covered and you have us solved). I can't scream it from the rooftops enough, you put Elway, Montana back there, they wouldn't have won that game with the way the WR's played.

Actually, if you read through the offense thread, just about every post is taking about receivers so it kinda is a thread just about receivers.
