How to fix it (Quarterback)

Mr. Scot

Recommended Posts

look i really hate jake as u can see by my name

but monday night wasn't all his fault

cowgirls went into half time made some changes

they killed our running game over the hole game

peppers was sitting on the side line when we really needed him

if your going to blame anyone let it be s smith for not running on his route and gave a interspersion for a td

(Currently posting different threads breaking down changes that I feel need to be made if we're going to salvage this season; keep in mind as you read that not everything can be fixed this year, so I'm attempting to concentrate on those things which realistically can be, and going unit by unit)

QUARTERBACK

This is at one time extremely simple, while being very complex.

Two points of discussion (including one point of contention)

Bench Jake Delhomme

As hard as it is to say knowing just how good a person and how great a teammate and leader Delhomme is, it’s time to re-focus his role to an off-field one rather than on. I made the case for this two weeks ago, and I won’t go through the whole thing again, but will add an important point as to why I believe the clock has finally struck midnight.

......

Make no mistake, starting Feeley is the wrong move. But outside of sticking with Delhomme, it’s the move John Fox is most likely to make.

And having said that, I’ll say this.

Barring an injury to Matt Moore, if Fox starts A J Feeley for so much as a single game, you will see me jump on the “Fire Fox” bandwagon with two feet and zero regrets.

Bottom line...

150% in agreeance.

Why we signed Feeley, I have no idea. Sit Jake now and give Moore a chance. I could see last year Jake wasn't himself and its getting worse every game. Give Moore a chance and if he sucks, then at least you know you can get rid of him also. We have been pussyfooting around for years finding a good young QB. To tell you the truth I think Hunter Cantwell could probably come in and do a better job than Jake. Dont get me wrong, Jake has done a lot for this team but after the surgery, he's never been the same. If Moore whiffs then rid yourself of Moore, McCown and Feeley. Combine that with the money you save from saying so long to Peppers and you can get guys that can and want to play.

I wouldn't go as far as Hunter Cantwell. To me, that would be true desperation.

When they needed to replace McCown, my first choice was Joey Harrington. He's played in systems that are way closer to ours than what Feeley was in. The "crash course" wouldn't have been as big a deal.

For the record, I wanted Harrington over David Carr back in 2007. No, he's not shown to be a winner, but he looked better in Atlanta than Carr did here (and he didn't have Carr's baggage).

Still wonder if things would have been different had we gone that route.

(they surely would have been different, but I don't know that I can say they'd have been better)

The problem we have with Peppers is the same problem we have with Jake, big contracts.

Jake is not making any more money this year than he would have made without the new deal, and he's not making anything close to what Peppers is making anyway, so that's apples and oranges.

And I still say that Jake was not even close to being the main problem in that game. This is a run first team, so no game should ever be all on Jakes shoulders in the first place.

That's the problem. The new deal (5 years) makes it less likely that another QB gets a chance to start in Carolina unless Delhomme gets hurt.

No it doesn't. It's a back-loaded deal and Jake will most likely never see the money from the last two years anyway. Besides that, his deal will look like pocket change in two years compared to the deals other veteran and rookie QB's will be getting.

For good or bad, it looks like we're stuck with him anyway.
