How to fix it (Quarterback)

Mr. Scot

This may not be a popular opinion, but I think the WR corps needs fixing more than the QB does. Maybe if we had another playmaker at WR, Delhomme wouldn't feel like he has to force the ball to Steve Smith so damn much.

Also, I've lost faith in Jeff Davidson's play calling. Our offense is not fooling anybody by running up the middle on first down, and the screen game that he talked so much about when he first came here, is almost non existent.

We have Steve. He's not the game changing, dominating force that he once was, but he's still really good. Moose is just about done and there's nobody behind him. I think young guys can be had even in the later rounds of the draft that can fix this quickly... if the right picks are made.

Not to mention we have talent at TE with Rosario.. Williams is amazing out of the backfield.

I'm not sold that Jake doesn't have enough targets. QB is definitely priority #1 here.

And amen on Davidson's game plan. Absolutely embarrassing effort.

I agree with the Op and with Mc about WR position. Not having a another wr with Smith by now is crazy. Plus we cut Key way to soon. Things might have been different if he was with Jarret the 1st year. Yes it's time to see what you have with Moore. Fox won't do it. He might not be here next year so why does he care about a future QB for the Panthers. He will sink with The jaketanic in my opinion.

This. Jake Delhomme is still a guy who can win four to six games a year for you in the fourth quarter. The Panthers have three very winnable games lined up ahead of them, and if they win those, who's to say they aren't a born again confident team that can win another three in a row as well?

WR is not the problem....and by this i'm talking all receiving options.

QB and playcalling is.

It doesn't matter how open the other receivers get...moore, jarrett, rosario, barnidge, williams, stewart....none of them are going to get targeted with any frequency as long as jake is at QB. jake is a creature of habit. when things get tough on him he goes to smith and then moose. he can't process things further than that under pressure any more.

we have good enough receivers. we just don't utilize them enough.

Well, from what I saw, Jake was actually making an effort to spread the ball around until late in the game. Hell, even Jarrett finally got a catch. How often do Moose and Jarrett actually get open though? It seems to me that Dante Rosario is actually Jake's 2nd best receiver right now.

To me, it's a bigger issue if your teammates are doubting the quarterback, that's when you truly have to bench someone. I don't know if were already there or not.

My thinking is that Fox believes that starting Moore is a one way street. In other words, he cannot make the move right now without feeling certain it is the right move because otherwise, if the move makes things worse, he's gone. If by sticking with what he has now doesn't work, the option to make a change (let's say three games later) is still there AND provides him enough ammunition to sell the change to the team without losing them completely.

Now, none of this discussion is relevant if they can't get the run game going, for the receivers to get open, and for the line to play more consistenly in pass blocking. I cannot expect Jake or Moore or Feely or whoever's the next "Start ____" guy is to succeed if everyone else around them are doing their part. You can make lemons from lemonade but you can't make lemonade from rocks....

(Wait, is that how it goes?)

jake...used to be a QB that relied on his guts and bold moves and, above all, confidence in your abilities to get the job done. he was a bret farve risk taker and had no qualms about risking everything. you take that away, that instinct, that boldness, and, the worst, that confidence, and you have a very unspectacular, bland, ordinary quarterback who thinks he is capable of more than he is. he can't hack it anymore. he used to have it but he lost it. i don't want to wait around to see if he can get it back.

john fox is in the same boat. he used to be bold enough to bench an underperforming QB in favor of a younger and unproven commodity. he can't do it anymore. he lost his boldness. not sure he can get it back either.

As much as I love Jake as a person and hate to see him fall like this. Its time..... IMO we have too many holes and too good of opponents to be successful this year. Still I know Fox will stick with Delhomme because he has the best chance to win as many games as possible and Fox is trying to keep his job. No good decisions will be made this year because of that. Just stop-gap ones.

it was in that one scoring drive they had towards the end of the 1st half. that was what he was going to have to do to win and they pulled the plug on it just like they pulled the plug on the running game.

in atlanta he threw it around to more receivers than he has since they lost to tampa last year. it worked. he got rosario involved way too late in that game and not long enough in this game. rosario has shown that he can be that other receiving threat but they refuse to use him.

moore has shown, much more than jake, that he is willing to throw to the open man and shows very little partiality in that regard. this is the type of QB we need. we also someone who is a little reckless/less scared of failing. moore fits that bill better than jake at this point. it's hard to know what moore is completely capable of without handing him the reigns. we have seen what jake can do and it's all downhill from here. i might feel differently if he was warner-like or had the success equal to farve's but he hasn't. i'm ready to move on. jake has given very little reason to believe that we shouldn't. his ceiling has been hit.
