How to fix it (Quarterback)

So which is it? Did he merely make the mistake of saying he doubts himself sometimes in public, or is doubting yourself at times a mistake that requires benching?

If it's the latter, then I'm not sure you're going to find the kind of guy you're looking for. Everyone doubts themselves; we either throw the thought aside, repress it or it plays out until we have more reason to believe in ourselves.

I understand what you're saying and it's a great thread and post, but I think you are a bit off when talking about doubting yourself. I think there is a line between doubting oneself and not believing in oneself. The former involves certain aspects or moments and the thought that "I'm pretty sure I can do this, but what if I can't?". However, not believing in oneself involves a total loss of confidence and self-esteem: "I can't do this - I'm no good."

Maybe it's mere terminology, but I don't believe Jake has reached the point that you think he has. It's hard to go from being a pretty successful NFL QB (look at how many are not - such as the ones who sit on the bench their entire career) to being a QB who thinks he can't perform, even though he's done so many times.

There's doubt, and then there's doubt.

Playing successfully in the NFL requires that you be at least a little cocky on a certain level. You have to believe that you can step on field with the best in the world, and beat them.

Start questioning that, and you're in trouble.

I completely understand what you are saying, and I completely agree.

But look at the words I bolded (besides the doubt one). I think that Delhomme believes he can win, I just think he has had doubts (and probably still does) about certain aspects of what he, and his team, needs to do to win those games. I still think he believes he can win, he's just a little worried about the aspects that get him there.

I guess what I'm really trying to say is he still believes in himself, he just doubts aspects of himself. Belief in the whole, doubting the components?

I think in times when he can sit and think about it, he still believes in himself.

It's those times out on the field when the bullets are flying fast and furious that a tiny little amount of doubt can creep in and make you hesitate just a half-second too long or go off just a half-second too fast. These are the moments that kill :(

Jake isn't the problem, he set the team up to win last night. The two pics WEREN'T his fault, Smith blew the route/Moose didn't even try on that pass. The running sucked ass, receivers dropped passes, O-Line didn't do a very good job.

This team has a lot of problems. Jake may be one of them, but he is not a top 5 problem.

Again, it's not just the mistakes. Those things happen even to the best of QBs.

It's the way the team looks most of the time when he's out there. yes, there are moments when I see the old Jake emerge, but as often as not he looks less like "the old Jake" and more like "old Jake" :(

Yeah, we're 0-3 with the 2nd hardest schedule in the league, a piss poor coach, and no heart. BUT YEAH IT'S NOT OVER, YOU'RE AN IDIOT.

You sir have no room to talk about being a idiot.

You can quit on the team if you want I like to see the postives in stuff. We can always turn it around and it not atleast Fox will be gone next season.

In 2007 Moore was average and 2 games and crap in the Dallas game(coincidentally, the game against the team who had actually seen him...what a shock). Since then, he has been awful in the preseason and when he has played in the regular season.

This is a guy who bounced around to 3 colleges and was average at best at the two D1 schools he played at. He wasnt good enough to get drafted. The coaching staff has seen him for 3 years and show no interest in putting him in the game.

I think people have unrealistic views about what Matt Moore is. Much like Brett Basanez before him.
