Who is the best speedster we could get at 8?

Every year there is an overhyped player that ends up falling dramatically. This year it is Corey Davis.

I think the pro days for Davis and Williams could be big for both of them.  If Davis runs a <4.5 and Williams runs >4.55 Davis could easily be the top receiver off of the board.  If that happens he could easily go in the top 12.

I like Ross but have had a different perspective than what I've seen here.

Loved him at first.  The kid has all-around NFL skills, not just speed.  It's route running, quickness, the whole shebang.  My hesitation is his injury history.  I feel similar to him talent wise as the top tier in the Landry, Beckham, Robinson, KB draft.   He just seems to have that top level along with Corey Davis..but don't think either will happen at 8.

I want in-game quickness, route running, and discipline.  My favorite prospect for this is in Rd3-5: Taywan Taylor

Ross is the easy answer but I'm not sure he goes top 10.  I could see him falling in the 10-20 range.  Davis might surprise some people at his pro day if he runs.

You could make the argument that Howard is a speedster considering he is a tight end and would be often covered by safeties and linebackers.

Maybe a Zay Jones in the second or Taylor in the third.

Samuel is an interesting prospect.  In all of the Ross news about his 40 the 4.31 by Samuel was forgotten.  He is a bit of hybrid like McCaffrey.

Straight line speed is overrated for a top 10 pick

Straight line speed is overrated, period. But the drills do give you an overall picture. If the guy looks fast on film, runs a fast 40, and has fast shuttles and three cone times... well, he's fuging fast.

IMO, the drills are more important for small school guys like Davis. Guys in the power conferences have at least a few games where they faced off against future NFL talent and gives evaluators better film to study. Small school guys are largely facing off against future salesmen and accountants. Gotta be able to verify the athleticism seen on film.

Idk about 8 other then ross but the later rounds id like the wr that ran a 4.3 hes been under the radar because of ross

Curtis Samuels? The concern with him is that he's not a true WR. He played as much RB in college as he did WR. He'll be projected as a WR in the NFL, likely a slot guy, but he's gonna be really, really raw. He'll probably primarily be a returner early on while a team tries to coach him up and find a role for him on offense.

Samuel seems like a possibility but there is a concern about his hands and route-running. That's an impressive 40 time. He's listed as a RB but I was reading how in interviews he has been told by basically all the teams that they see him as a receiver in the NFL. Maybe he will fall because he has been a gadget player. The other thing is he returns kicks which could be useful.

If teams don't fall in love with Samuels' workouts, he's probably a 4th or 5th round pick. You're drafting him as a return man and hoping to turn him into a player you can utilize on offense. Either way, he could have a long career as an impact return man.

If we're going to draft a WR/return man I'd rather go with Ryan Switzer. He's more proven in both categories and while he lacks Samuels' pure blazing straight line speed he had better times in the shuttles and three cone drills. His agility, short area burst, and change of direction ability are off the charts and honestly those skills are all more important to a WR than pure straight line speed unless we're talking about running a go route.

Hell, ideally I'd love to see us draft Zay Jones in the 2nd and then turn around and take Switzer in the 4th if he's there. I've all but given up on Funchess and I'm not holding out a ton of hope for these recent WR signings or the bottom of the roster WRs currently in the roster that do many fans seem to be in love with.

Samuel is a bit like McCaffrey in the he did a little bit of everything for Ohio State.  I'm pretty sure McCaffrey did more rushing and Samuel did more receiving last year. I think he goes in the 2nd, I would be shocked if he got anywhere close to the 4th or 5th.

Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't Jones have some of the best hands in all of college football last year?  For some reason I thought I saw an article or tweet about how low his drop percentage was last year.

Personally he is one of my favorite picks for our second rounder.  I don't think he will be there in the third.

He might not have the true #1 ceiling that some people want, although he showed more athleticism at the Senior Bowl and combine than some people thought, but I feel like his floor is a quality #2.  Cam needs a WR version of Olsen, a sure handed player who can get open when needed.
