Which DE is worth a shot in this years draft

Apparently NFLs own draft profile sees it my way as well.

D. Barnett

NFL Comparison
Nick Perry

Bottom Line
Strong edge presence with NFL-caliber hand usage and play strength. Barnett is one of the most productive defensive linemen to come out of the SEC in quite some time despite lacking the length and twitch that teams usually look for off the edge. His awareness and play traits should keep him near the action and he has the talent to step into a starting base end spot right away. There could be coordinators who view him as an early down, outside backer in a 3-4 with the ability to put his hand in the ground on sub packages.

T.Charleton

NFL Comparison
Chandler Jones

Bottom Line
"Inconsistent" has been the buzzword that has followed Charlton since coming to Michigan, but he began the process of shaking it during his senior season. Charlton is an ascending prospect with the size, length, athleticism and pass-rushing potential that NFL general managers dream of. What you see today might not be what you get. While his production coming out of college will be modest, he could become a substantially better player as a pro if he's committed to the weight room and willing to absorb coaching. High-impact defensive end with all-pro potential is his ceiling. His floor is solid starter.

Maybe if you acutal read the breakdown you would see it says everything i said here..

And again the only thing pushing Taco up the board is he looks good in a uniform..

If you fall for that as a GM you won't be one for long..

To answer your question ..

Give me the guy where i don't have to question his effort, will he work for any coach, does he seem like football is his life, and has he produced more times than not..

Perfect example..

Give me Luke Kuchely over Aaron Curry any day..

So you want a 3-4 Edge rusher which is what Barnett will end up being, over the prototype 4-3 DE that fits the Panthers system to perfection. Makes sense. Your also acting like guys don't improve once they get to the NFL and get NFL training. Taco is a guy Gettleman literally dreams about, pull up every interview when he discusses scouting players. He's a HOG MOLLY. I'm glad you love Barnett but he doesn't fit the Panthers and I assure you I will be back on draft night when he's not the pick.

So how then is Barnett undersized? 6'3" 259 at combine but 10 LBS more normally, when not sickas he was at the combine. Point is neither are considered desirable in the prototypical mold but because of these stats Barnett's stock is dropping but Thomas' isn't. I don't get it.

Shorter arms and in terms of "normally" you're taking his word and the coaches' word on that. We'll see what he weighs at his pro day. Curious to see how he does there. His times at the Combine pretty much sucked. Props to him for trying to compete but if he really was that sick he probably should've just bowed out.

6'3 is The Norm for DE and his playing weight during the season is only 5 pounds (265 -270) under Thomas..

This is my fear. Gettleman loves his measurables and Taco has them. Taco is basically Kony Ealy.

You know who else looked good in a uniform? Kony Ealy

...That sounds dirtier than I wanted it to be but you get my point

Some of you do know that CJ is 6'2 275 right now..

6'2" with a 4.84 40 is why CJ was available in the 3rd round.

I basically see Thomas as a slightly taller/longer and more athletic version of CJ. Both primarily win with strength at the point of attack, but Thomas has more burst to win with speed too.

The question is, would a longer, more athletic version of CJ be worth the #8 overall pick? IMO, yes.

Cj was only a 3rd round pick because he came out a year early then he should have and didn't have the resume.. Barnett resume alone is top 5..
