Panthers Trade Kony Ealy To Patriots

Patriots acquired DE Kony Ealy and a third-round pick from the Panthers in exchange for a second-round selection.

Just a couple days after taking a low-cost shot on Dwayne Allen, the Patriots are at it again. With a picked-over market at pass rusher, acquiring a former second-round pick by essentially moving down eight spots (assuming the picks are in 2017) is another piece of smart business from New England. That said, Ealy has been a below-average player outside of a memorable Super Bowl performance. The Patriots still have work to do on the defensive line.

Low cost? doesn't Allen have a fat contract?

The Panthers' decision to trade defensive end Kony Ealy and a third-round pick to the Patriots for New England's second-round pick (per Adam Schefter's source) makes sense. Ealy has been inconsistent and to a large degree a disappointment since the Panthers selected him in the second round out of Missouri in 2014. He was moved to a backup role last year, believing he could be more productive as a pass rusher coming off the bench. With the re-signing of ends Charles Johnson, Mario Addison and Wes Horton, and with an agreement to sign Julius Peppers, there wouldn't have been enough playing time for Ealy.

I said picks not THE second round pick.

Reading comprehension.

Nope you mentioned giving away picks in general. So picks in general just means you would have gotten a pick for Ealy and only Ealy. Anyways...
