Step Away From the Edge - A Brief Look at Us

I know a lot of guys are for lack of a better term tripping, but seriously, take a look at us, even just a day into free agency....

Offense

QB-Cam Newton <<< MVP Caliber QB

HB-Stewart, Rookie, Whittaker

FB-Darrel Young or Devon Johnson

WR-KB, Funch, (Cruz IMO), rookie, Byrd/Garrett

TE-Olsen, Rookie, Dickson

OL-Kalil, Norwell, Kalil, Turner, Williams/Oher <<< if the health pans out that's the best line in the NFC South (in my opinion)

Defense **EDITS**

DL-Addison, Short, Lotulelei, Johnson (with Horton, Ealy (TRADED TO NE FOR A 2ND, ALONG WITH THE NORMAN COMP PRESUMABLY), Butler, and a rookie as reserves) <<< maybe even Peppers (SIGNED)

LB-Thompson, Kuechly, Davis <<< best 4-3 trio in the NFL hands down still

DB-Bradberry, Worley <<< Nickel is a concern, but with Munnerlyn a possibility with the draft still looming as well as Leonard we are ok

S-Coleman/Boston <<< I still think we upgrade this position in free agency/draft >>> MIKE ADAMS SIGNED - PRO BOWL SS

-----------------------------------

When you look at our potential starters on both sides that's at least 10 pro-bowl players at one time or another, we had 11 the year of the Superbowl, this is our roster on March 10th.....let me repeat that March 10th, no draft, no UDFA's, we're not even done yet!!

I know some of you are bummed about GInn's exit, and honestly I will miss his big play potential, but there are plenty of receivers that are equal talents in this draft that have way more potential and upside that a 32 year old 50/50 receiver. We have FOUR PICKS IN THE TOP 100 <<< when is the last time a Superbowl caliber team had that???

Gentlemen we are in EXTREMELY good shape, I for one am going to sit back and enjoy this off-season, as I look forward to the 2017 season and you all should too. Just take a step back, and look at the whole picture. We are going to be a DAMN good team this year!

Doesn't look great. Definitely not bad, and our holes could be filled through FA (which has barely fracking started people!!!) and the draft. My biggest concern is safety, both on Defense and Cam's - not just because we don't have a lot depth on the line but also the lack of offensive weapons puts more of a burden on him to run. Looking at that offense, we don't really have a lot of pop who can score points and Stewart being older and Ginn gone makes it worse. This makes me more on the FOurnette train all the more (though if Adams is there....dag)

The issue is we're trying to justify our starting 22 as a solid squad, but there are several positions where we have little to no quality depth (safety, corner, DE, LB, LT, RB, WR).  When the injuries start happening, which they will, we're going to need a lot more than what we currently have on the roster to weather the storm.  Now in saying that -- that's what a practice sqaud, the draft and FA signings are all for.  Hopefully we have some talent that's been developing on the PS and we can sign some FA's with instant impact.

TE also a huge depth issue

Only skimmed through your novel, saw "bummed about Ginn leaving"... nobody is bummed he left. We r bummed that we don't have a replacement yet.

It's cool to be optimistic,  but realistically,  outside of 2015, since gman has been here we haven't improved what so ever. Same old losing season followed after a winning one... the man is too cocky that he can find "starters" in other teams practice squads and it's cheap that way I guess, who knows.  Granted he inherited a team in a huge cap mess, we aren't in it anymore and he is still managing the money like we are, and as a fan since I was in 5th grade, it's frustrating to never get big name talent and never progress as a franchise. Probably easier to point the finger at JR for allowing this to keep happening, but hey, he get his money, so wtf does he care?

Don't you know that we're terrible until we're not, but then again we're still bad?  Remember when the Panthers were 6-0, but everyone said we were 5-1.  Yeah, we are always that bad!!!

There are some people here who just love to complain and go doom and gloom.  They believe that we'll never be good, and when we are, they are there, waiting for us to stumble to prove how right they were.  I think they are simply closet Patriot fans...or they really just need help.  Many of those same folks want all the "big names" despite that being a real crap shoot.  Gettleman gambled big on Kalil, and now his entire future (and Riveras for the coaching) is tied to how well Kalil helps the team win.  If we fail, there's a very good chance Rivera is gone, and very possibly Gettleman.

The NFL season is a long way away.  NFL players are very prideful.  As are coaches, executives, down to the equipment managers.  The Panthers will either turn it around, or people will get fired.  It's really that simple.  Most of us hope that Gettleman and Rivera will get the ship righted.  Lots of things will happen between now and the season.

We're not too far off from the team who went to the Super Bowl.  I appreciate the OP's point, despite many of the incessant, whiny naysayers.

it's easy to freak out about FA acquisitions without realizing our roster is actually pretty stacked.

unfortunately our coaching staff is the type to need all-pros at every level to win because they don't have the proficiency to scheme deficiencies out of the game, or adjust to teams trying to expose them. very frustrating.

Yeah if I were gonna be down on anything it wouldn't be the roster, it would be the offensive coaching staff, and Rivera being stuck in 1985 in regard to his mentality.

Offensively we've got two thousand yard capable receivers in KB/Olsen, when healthy and behind a solid line Stewart is a thousand yard capable back, and Cam is a four thousand yard passing caliber QB.

We just need to get out of our own way with the long developing pass plays, and the telegraphed runs.
